.. suffer from angina.. would enlarged heart make an angiogram more urgent?

have been attending Cardiologist every 6 months fir the last two years.. he mentioned on last visit that if angina pain continues to crop up then he will seriously consider an angiogram.. had a really bad episode just befire Christmas.. severe pain that lasted 10 mins and required 2 puffs of gtn before it went away.. xray now shows enlarged heart.. worried that last episode might’ve been more serious than an a simple angina attack.. due to see Cardiologist next week.. just wondering if angiogram would now become more urgent?

Hi Manhattan1

If your angina is becoming more unstable, it is likely that your cardiologist will now book you for an angiogram to assess your coronary arteries, especially if they have mentioned previously that this will be the next step in your plan. We have information on our website on angina and angiograms, and if after seeing your doctor if there is anything you want more information on you can call our Heart Helpline on 0300 330 3311.

Just a note to say if you have severe chest pain that isn't relieved by your GTN spray please call 999.

Best of luck, and we're here if you need any more information or support.

thanks Ashleigh.. the enlarged heart scenario has concerned me a little.. hopefully the Cardiologist will discuss that with me next week.. the thing that concerns me most regards the angina was that the pain experienced just before Christmas happened at rest ..cardiologist advised to call 999 if this happened.. but would be embarrassed if when ambulance arrived the pain had gone..

Hi Manhattan

Never ever feel embarrassed. It’s really important to call for help. The paramedics will do an ECG on the spot so you will have a ‘real time’ ECG. If you can’t bear to phone 999 then phone 111. I have done this a couple of times because of chest pain and they have sent out paramedics because of my history of heart attack. I have always felt guilty about this but everyone from the paramedics to the nurses and doctors in A&E have always said better safe than sorry. So please phone for help if it happens again. Genuinely they won’t mind especially as they are often called to non emergency situations!! Do take care and look after yourself

Best wishes

Zena

thanks Zena.. appt with Cardiologist on Tues will raise the subject with him.. but i’m sure he’ll have the same opinion as yourself.. if i get chest pain at rest i’ll call for an ambulance.. if i have pain while up and about not relieved by gtn spray i’ll get help..

well saw the Cardiologist yesterday.. no angiogram.. he’s happy to just continue with medication.. i’m happy to go along with that.. as i have microvascular angina stents aren’t possible as the arteries are tiny.. he advised that if i have chest pain at rest for more than 10 mins not alleviatated by gtn spray then i should call 999
