Any advice regarding wearing a bra after heart surgery, I seem to have read that I need a front fastening one ?

Thanks in advance

A front fastening bra is a good idea if you can find a comfortable one, but I bought a couple of unwired cotton bras from Sainsbury’s and they were very comfortable. I did them up at the front and then twisted them round, but I’ve got a rotator cuff problem so can’t get my arms behind me to do a bra up anyway.

The first time I had my op the hospital actually put me in a front fastening support, but I didn’t get that this time. The important thing is that it is unwired and comfortable.

Hi

I bought a front fastening bra but found it was uncomfortable also got a larger size but still felt tight so I bought unwired one from M&S was a bit better might just be me I am not big so went with out some times which was bliss.

Good luck

I always wear a soft Bra as I find the wired ones tight, I think I could go without as I'm not a big lady, and if I'm recovering at home I'm sure no one will notice I'm not wearing one, and Like you say "what bliss"

thank you.

I usually do as you do as I can't get my arms round my back, I do wear soft bra's so maybe they will suffice, Sainsbury's have 25% of this weekend so will pop in there for a look and maybe get one that's a bit bigger,

thank you

Hi there I was in looking at bras in Debenhams this week, I got chatting to a lady there who suggested “Nicola Jane” for post surgery bras, not that I need one I was only looking for one with a wide strap with having a pacemaker. The Debenhams ones were nice too but not front fastening. Have you gone in and tried any on I find the ladies very helpful in stores. M&S were great too. Jen

Thank you

I haven't tried any on yet, my op. is in May, However I have looked at M&S on line for front openings but the choice was limited, I will look at Debenhams.

M&S have a nice soft bra with wide shoulder straps that I find very comfortable, it also has a little net piece at the very middle between the cups which allows the scar to breath 🙂. Whatever bra you get, keep an eye on the area where the scar is under the bra as it’s a prime area for getting an infection.

Thanks for your good advice, I will go back on line and look at the M&S bras, and forget the front loaders.

I'm not looking forward to the op. more so the afterwards and recovery.

The bra I got was T338126, very comfy.

I don’t think any of us looked forward to the op, but for me the recovery wasn’t too bad. Just take it a day at a time and don’t overdo things. Sleeping was the hardest thing, so difficult to get comfortable - take the painkillers as they’ll help.

Thanks for the info, M&S have 10% off bra's with my sparks card.

I have sent off for one of those V shaped pillows in case I need to sit up in bed. I will take on board what you said about the painkillers, no good being a martyr.

I’m onli wearing a bra wen i need to for modesty reasons at the mo due to my chest pain and tightness. I’ve found this easy to cope wiv. I’ve also bought bras wiv a bigger chest size so it’s more comfortable.

good advice, I don't think it's worth me buying a front fastening one, [ I nearly said a front loader } and probably wont get used again once I'm healed.

thank you

I’ve been bra less for months now but a front fransten bra seems weird to me as well.

Front fasteningn bras were very popular and easy to get some lovely styles in the 80s and we always referred to them as front loaders 😃

I'm 73 and have never heard them called front loaders, it was just a slip of the tongue when I almost called them that, I was probably thinking of a washing machine, as I need a new one,
