Had a first episode of rapid heartbeat last summer,diagnosed as paroxysmal fibrillation. Echocardiographer in December and no further contact.

Is this too long to wait?

Sounds as you know the answer to the question !!! Have you contacted your GP to ask what is going on. I personally don't know what Paroxysmal Fibrillation is, but does it require Medication/Cardiology intervention ? Are you getting the Medication you need from your GP to control the Fibrillation. I am sure someone will be along soon who knows about the condition and will give you advice !!

Yes, that is a long wait. Get hold of the cardiology secretary and find out what is going on. Even if it’s good news, they should tell you either directly or through your GP. Having things done in December does seem to cause a few delays - you are not alone!

So, don’t sit around, start making a nuisance of yourself.

Hi paroxysmal Fibrillation Means short intermittent bursts /episodes of rapid heartbeats. Feels like heart beating fast and missing beats. Usually clear within few minutes or up to a week.

Full AF /AF means u have it all the time.

Its an electrical disturbance In The heart in the case of AF the atria flutter or fibrillate which means it is trembling rather than beating properly. It can

reach very high rates. The ventricle cannot beat at this rate hence the strange feeling in the chest of missing beats and or fluttering feeling.

Was it paroxysmal AF (Atrial Fibrillation).

I had a long period of rapid irratic beats 7 weeks after open heart surgery to repair a valve (I never had it before)

Diagnosed with paroxysmal AF.

Was told during these episodes there is a danger that when the heart is not pumping properly or Fibrillating blood pools and can begin to clot within the heart . If this happens there is a chance it can lead to stroke!!

In my case was immediately put on beta blockers to control rate and help with disturbance and anti coagulation medication.

If I was you I would chase this up ASAP with GP and or cardiac consultant due to the increasing risk especially if u are having repeated attacks of Fibrillation.
