HCM DIAGNOSED

Hi Im a 30year old male newly diagnosed with hcm iv had the ecg, eco, 7day heart monitor and just waiting on my MRI SCAN now is there anything else they do after the mri? I take bisoprolol 1.25 once a day? Anyone want lose have this condition and what I can expect from it? Thanks Michael

Hi Michael - sorry to hear about your diagnosis with HCM. Hopefully you have a lot of the information you need, but here's a link to our webpage in case this is useful for you:bhf.org.uk/heart-health/con... there's a quite comprehensive booklet you can download on this page too, or order a free hard copy for delivery.

An MRI usually helps to confirm the condition is HCM and also gives us a much better idea as to how much the condition has affected your heart. This usually helps us to decide what treatment is best and how often to bring you back in for more scans.

Something else you might want to talk to your specialist about is genetic testing, which you can read more about in our booklet. This is basically where we take a blood or saliva sample and see if you carry a faulty gene known to cause HCM. We can then look for this faulty gene (if you have one) in your family members to see if they are also at risk of developing the condition.
