Hi I'm Andrew and after 60 years living with a hole in the heart which in recent years has been symptoms free, I now have atrial fibrillation and recently discovered both mitral and aortic valve leaks so awaiting potential surgery

Hi Andrew, I had surgery in 2007 to repair my mitral valve as I had severe regurgitation, I am now on a waiting list to have a mechanical valve fitted as the repair has failed and my valve regurgitation is now back to severe.

You will no doubt have lots of tests to find out what needs doing in the way of surgery, if anything. One tip I would give is to write down any questions you have for the cardiologist or surgeon so that you don't get home and remember something you wanted to ask. My surgeon has told me he is very happy to see me anytime if I want to discuss anything with him, in fact I saw him yesterday even though it wasn't his clinic day.

Hi Andrew and welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear of your recent issues. As nettyanne has said prepare some questions for your cardiologist. There is also good information on the BHF website
