Post Operative Constipation...

Sorry for the wonderfully sensitive topic but I just had a few questions.

For those who had constipation after their operations- how long did it last?

It has only been 8 days since my op- 9 since I went. But in the past have had to have major surgical intervention for life threatening consitipation caused by a anorectal congenital defect and continued (pre heart op) to have been on a daily management schedule. Returned to the schedule (in fact doubled the number of times I perform the procedure) but no result yet. I am going to ring the colorectal CNS on Monday to ask if there is anything more I can take/ administer if still no result.

I am walking around a lot given I was only discharged 48 hours ago- phone has registered 2 miles a day but it is not really helping. And yes I have changed my diet to the ridiculous medical prescribed rectifying diet for people like me.

afternoon,

well we are supposed to cover all topics. For me was three days post op

Hi there - good plan to chat to your CNS, having regular bowel movements is important and we need to get you back into a routine.

Take care, Chris

For me was 3 days post op I think to do with the antibiotics. I ate plenty of pears and that seemed to do the trick.

I have empathy for you. I ended up in hospital for constipation from pain meds post surgery. Drink 12 oz of prune juice each day. Works and is good for heart.
