Acitretin

My consultant has just suggested me trying Acitretin for my psoriasis.

The unpleasant side effects seem to be VERY common, and I was wondering what others have experienced.

I used this for about 6 months and it caused me to gain 40 pounds and didn’t help my psoriasis at all.... but my experience will not necessarily be yours.

Acitretin worked for me, but only once I got to 50mg. The side effects are different per person and I seemed to get a lot of them. I had dry skin, especially on my face and my lips would crack all the time. The skin on my feet peeled badly leaving the soles of my feet quite tender. I had dry eyes, dry sore nose. The worst though was a tender scalp and my hair falling out in handfuls at a time. Luckily I had very think hair so it wasn't too noticeable to other people. I was only able to tolerate it for 6 months and a couple of weeks off it and the side effects went completely and i'm happy to say that my hair is growing back to how it used to be.

It is worth considering, but as you say the side effects are quite common.
