It's better to know what you have and whats wrong than not know. Atleast then you can treat it and know what to do if you have a flare. It's a pain but can be controlled, the best thing is knowing what is going wrong! I was so relieved to find out that I was not a hypochondriac and happy to know that the varying symptoms were related. Hope you get a diagnosis soon and don't worry too much (worrying is the worst thing you can do!! ) :)

It's easy for me to say but please try not to worry. Now that you have a possible diagnosis you can begin the journey to correct medications, care, support and management.

It's important to understand that you will not have every symptom or experience or to the same degree as everything you read about. We all have BD in common but the way it affects us varies enormously from person to person, as does our treatment.

Many BD patients can and do live normal lives. It can go into remission and can be controlled and managed. You don't see positive posts from people are doing fine very often because this is a place where we mostly come for advice, support, to rant and cry or share whatever it is we need to share.

If it is your GP who suspects BD and you are in the UK, ask for a referral to a Centre of Excellence.

Meanwhile, if you haven't already, have a look at the main website where you will find a wealth of useful information.

Hi sam :)

I agree with everything Denise and Tigerfeet have said.

We do all have different symptoms with BD and it doesn't mean that you would have all of the symptoms that we write about on here!

As Denise said if you are diagnosed with BD at least it will give you reasons for why you have been suffering with various symptoms. It is true that we don't come rushing in here to say yay everything is great but it is a really valuable way for us to share with others that know what we are going through.

I hope you get the help you need :)

My advice would be that once you have a diagnosis things are only likely to get better in terms of your current symptoms and any new ones can be managed more quickly. If this diagnosis happens sooner rather than later this can only be a good thing.

As to mouth ulcers there is help to manage them. I currently use a steroid mouthwash to limit the frequency and intensity of mouth ulcers and another mouthwash to help numb them. If you are seeing a dermatologist about anal/testicular ulcers then they should be able to help with mouth ulcers too. If not ask your GP to refer you to someone appropriate, preferably as part of a Behcet's clinic.

I would also recommend that you tell all doctors about ALL your symptoms as it amasing how many seemingly unconnected ailments can be linked to BD. This overall picture can help with both symptomatic and general BD treatment.

Good luck

I was diagnosed with Behcets 35 years ago. I'm 58 and still like to live. I hope to live the best years. No worries. The pain and discomfort can be overcome by our will to live.

A year ago I was diagnosed with Neuro Behcets. I'm still around and smiling. If this is your diagnosis, you will walk not alone! We are few in our world, but it is as if we are many and strong.

All the best to you!
