Hi lesley

Thanks for getting me at it...it has distracted me from my miserable illness :)

I didn't need to reduce the size of my photo's that I put on my blogs from my holiday. So have you actually tried it and it says too large?

If so depending on what software you use it maybe slightly different instructions, but I will try to help.

My software I use for photo's is Windows Live Photo Gallery and this is the instructions.

1. Double click on the photo you want to resize

2. Go to Edit, Organise or share in the menu banner

3. right hand click with the pointer on the photo

4. a new menu comes up with resize as one of the selections - click on this

5. you can then resize to set values [i.e small or smaller] or custom your own size.

Hope this makes sense, but if you are using another package, you may have to play around on the same theory.

That will keep you out of trouble for a while...won't it ;)

good luck and I will look forward to seeing the photo...I think :)

Andrea

As far as I know, 'saving as' won't reduce the size. It depends on your operating system and which programmes you have.

Personally I open mine in paint and select 'resize' then 'save as,' so I have still got the original. I know there are other ways to do it so perhaps someone else will have a better idea.

I work in IT but I use Linux a lot of the time. I am sure that Paint in Windows or perhaps Photo Manager (Win 7 only I think) would allow you to resize. I'll reboot into Windows and have a look.

Well the easiest way to resize a picture in Windows is to use Pain. This should be available in all versions of Windows from XP through to Win 7.

You can either open Paint from START| ALL PROGRAMS | ACCESSORIES then Paint then use the Open function to find the picture or...

Find the picture, right click on it and select "Open with..." It should show some options in terms of available editing programs, select Paint and it will open the image.

I'm using Win 7 so when the Paint program opens you will see an option to resize the picture. It can be easier to use "Maintain Aspect Ratio" as this ensures the picture retains the same width and height ratio preventing a weird picture shape. Once you have the size you want just click save as (Small down arrow in top left) and choose JPEG.

That should solve it.

Oops! That should read "Well the easiest way to resize a picture in Windows is to use Paint" and not Pain...we all have enough of that!

Hi Dave

I seem to be following you around the website!

Will put the instructions (suitably named) into my Behcet's folder in My Documents, along with the other tips above.

I'm over 50 and have had to force myself to keep up with technology to keep in business. I run my own business teaching distance education courses here in Australia (did attempt to go International a couple of years ago and got all of four students).

I have a great tech support company here who get me out of trouble when I need it (especially with students emailing in work I need to keep everything running smoothly).

The art of resizing pictures to use on the internet has never been necessary until lately.

Thanks again

Lesley
