I have been referred for an endoscope and although I am normally strong, this is really worrying and upsetting me. Can anyone let me know if they have had this procedure and what is it like as for some unknown reason this is really freaking me out.

Advice on endoscope
If you are worried and upset you could talk it over with your GP or whoever decided you would benefit from having this proceedure. You could also ask for a sedative - these are often offered before the proceedure but it may be a good idea to find out first. Here is some info that might help. nhs.uk/conditions/Endoscopy... I've had it done many times and never had a problem with it. The team who are going to do it usually come and have a chat with you first.
Thank you for the reply. I feel really stupid I am normally so strong but can't even tell you why I am so worried. Will have a look at website you sent. I've had nerve blocks in my back and a stallite gangolin injection in my neck/throat which was very bad but still I don't feel happy with this. Thanks again
Don't feel stupid. It's understandable. We go through so much, we are 'brave,' we endure, but sometimes it's just one thing too many, or something that hits our 'fear button.' I've had distressing and painful procedures, yet I am more frightened of scanners than anything else!
p.s. If someone else's experience can help you to get through yours then it's always worth asking, however you feel. No one is here to judge how anyone else feels, we are all here to share and support and utimately to respect one another's feelings. I might even remember how to spell proceeeeeedure eventually
Thank you appreciate what you have said it's great just to tell someone else how you feel I have wonderful family support but sometime just talking to someone going through the same thing helps. And who cares how anything is spelt we all know what you mean thanks again. I an due this procedure on 4th sept but haven't stopped my meds yet so I might have to cancel anyway
If you have been advised to stop your meds and haven't done so then you need to notify the hospital - they will have booked a slot for you which can go to someone else if you can't take it. If you think you should have stopped your meds but are not sure, find out.
Hi jkdee,
It is natural to be worried and anxious. I had a real worry about having a needle into my eye socket after my first one in 2002. When the next one came, in 2009, I was only told about it on the day, and it was not so bad.
I have had tubes in four places (mouth, nose, penis, and anus) and it is not nice. I would not say it is painless but it is certainly uncomfortable, but over fairly quickly. Do chat to your GP about this, and see what they say.
There is an offer of anaesthetics for mouth tubes.

Thank you all for your advice. Why I am so concerned is that I have had no information given to me just a telephone call briefly explaining the procedure they said they would send me information but as yet not received this. I only had this call late on Friday and they said I might have to stop meds but to check withy GP first. As it being a bank holiday GP not available. Going to check with him tomorrow but slowly running out of time . So will ring Hosp and postpone for the time being until this can be sorted properly. Thanks again everyone
