New mums - please share your post both flare experience

Hello new mums. I’m 17+5 weeks pregnant and I’m beginning to think about the of the birth of my baby. I’ve been taking advice from obstetricians but they want me to have the birth that’s best for me and my baby.

I don’t know any new Behcet’s mums to ask these questions of, so if there are any new mums reading this could you share your birth story including how you felt after the birth in regards to flare ups? Please feel free to be as honest as possible... I’d rather know *exactly* what I’m in for!

Had little boy last year felt amazing during pregnancy no ulcers and all joint pain cleared up , did have gestational diabetes during pregnancy though and did have regular growth scans because of bechets and diabetes little one came a month early and after didn’t have any flare ups for couple of months then since have been having mouth ulcers again and some joint pain but not as bad as before

Are you in the UK? Take a look at Behçet’s uk leaflet on pregnancy and ask your Behçet’s team to speak to your obstetric consultant. I had positive delivery experience overall (both times around) with written care plan for IV steroids after delivery as that is when most Behcet’s patients flare up. I stayed well. I also had a Behçet’s clinic review after 2 weeks (in that high risk period) so good to schedule that in.

My children are now 10 and 12 so antenatal Care should have only got better since then with joining up of services and those with a chronic disease being under obstetrician and not just midwife-led care. First time round I did have visual issues at 24 weeks so had to stop my fulltime job then which felt like a blow as it was not part of my “life plan” but Behçet’s has a way of disrupting that and it all worked out fine in the end!
