Hi everyone started new meds today I'm very scared bout it? Anyone on Methortrexate? If so did you get side effects and how soon? Thanks
Hi,
I was given Methotrexate tablets around 6 months ago after trying a few different medications that didn't work. Started on 10mg and increased to 15mg to see if it would help. Even though the folic acid is supposed to help with side effects I felt extremely sick all the time. It was approximately 2 - 3 weeks before this started. Wasn't actually sick but did start to lose weight as I didn't feel like eating. My consultant decided to try the injections instead which I had to be taught to do. This doesn't make me feel sick at all but I do feel a lot more exhausted though and have had a bad tummy more than usual.
Haven't noticed much of a change so I think it is being increased next week if all my blood tests are ok. I still get all the ulcers, migraines, painful stiffness and muscle pain etc but it has taken away some of the general unwell feeling. I do know a few people who are on it for other medical problems and they don't have any problems taking it. Hope this helps.
Best wishes, Jo
I was physically sick once or twice within about 2 weeks of starting it and lost appetite. However, all has been fine after that and I have been on it now for over 5 yrs. It helped to keep my eye inflammation under control.
Hi
I have been on Methotrexate for nearly 4 years now. I think it works for me. I usually feel a bit off colour the next day but can put up with this. I think everyone reacts differently. My mum is also on it and it used to make her vomit but she has injections now and finds it much better. Hope this helps and good luck.

Thanks everyone no sickness so far but feel very exhausted and run down as per always slightly more at the mo. fingers crossed it works. No luck with anything yet apart from steroids xx
I start this medicine 6 -8 weeks ago and first time I took I felt awful sickness, toilet, bloating and exhausted. They change when I took my folic acid and seems a little better but still cant get off the toilet the following morning so they have put me on the waiting list for injections but I'm hoping that hoping that in the mean time that my body start to tolerate it better by taking folic acid every day except my methotrexate day and using travel bands and ginger to help.
