New to Birth Control (Need some reassurance please) Also is it okay to take one pack of birth control and restart again after a month?)

Hi I'm new here :), so hi everybody! My question is just a few days ago I was prescribed the Microgen 30 birth control pills. I've been hesitant to take them yet as I've just been so anxious about side affects even though two doctors have already explained that I am young and healthy so am not at risk for any of them. I've been feeling my legs having muscle spasms at night, it's probably not got anything to do with blood clots but my leg was a bit sore when walking. Does this happen to anyone else or am i just paranoid? It's my first time going on birth control so from my research I found the combined and pop (progestin only pill). The Dr recommended the combined pill as i mentioned I wanted a period, and I agreed as it will give me the reassurance that I'm not pregnant, even though i read some places that the pill free week doesn't give you a period but 'withdrawal bleeding'. Are these two not suppose to be the same thing, my Dr mentioned period with the combined pill so I went with that one, as I wanted to still have periods but lighter and less painful ones, as some months I have terrible cramps. I haven't had sexual intercourse before and want to now but I have a question could I take it just for one month and then take a break for a month? And restart again if i wanted too and is that safe to do? I've been given 3 packs.

I also keep thinking should I have just went for the pop, as I learned side effects aren't as serious, but on the downside I found it can cause spotting for a lot of people. Sorry guys if this is all over the place, but i'd really love if you could share your thoughts and experiences, I think it will calm my nerves 🙂.

I’m on the combined pill too (maexeni) I believe it’s the same as microgyn. I’ve been on it now for over a year and touch wood it’s been amazing for me! I’m also more likely to experience side effects on it as I’m on the bigger side but still under the weight cap and I also convinced myself I was getting blood clots with any slight pain I’ve had but they haven’t been. I was told blood clots would leave the skin irritated and hot aswell as bad pain.

I was on the pop before this and my body didn’t like it, it caused me continual bleeding however I do know some girls who love it and never get a period on it just luck of the draw I guess.

I do wish my body would agree with the pop as it’s safer but for now I’ve had no issues with the combined pill.

You can take the month break but you won’t be protected as it takes a week. Also you may want to not take a month break as the hormones Need to settle in your body instead of changing continuously:)

Thank you so much for replying :) I must say I feel a lot better now about taking it xx Do you get your period on the pill free week? With the Microgen there's a week of placebo pills at the end of the pack. Also sorry for asking I know it's been a long time ago but do you remember if you started taking the combined pill on the first day of your period? I read somewhere that starting on first day of cycle prevents breakthrough bleeding so I'm just curious if that's true x

No worries! Yes I do get a bleed on the pill free week I believe my pill and yours has the exact same levels of hormones in but with just different names. I get a bleed about 5-6 days after the last pill in the pack and it lasts about 4 ish days.

I’m pretty sure I did as I remember the lady telling me to wait until my period then take the 1st pill but I’m not certain. I was changed from combined to pop again a few months back and it caused me to bleed continuously again so they put me back to combined which has been great for me. You can also take 2 packs back to back to kiss a period if you need to x
