I had the copper coil inserted beginning of last month and since then, I have been having very heavy and long periods that last 10 days with spotting in between. It has been really painful too with random cramps here and there.
But my biggest problem is that I am now unable to hold my urine, my bladder feels like there is a huge pressure on it all the time and I leak because of that. I am very confused and frustrated as this has never happened before.
Any advice on what I should do? Please..

Hi it does take a while for the coil to settle dwn. It is normal to get cramps which will disappear as your body gets useto the coil being there but do take pain killers which will help. Heavy periods are a common side affect of the Cooper coil at the beginning but you should return to your normal cycle pattern after a few months. My coil took a good 3 to 4 months to settle and i did get spotting every now and then inbetween periods. This is due to it being fitted in the most sensitive part of your body. Wish you well but try not to worry too much.
I would ask for an ultrasound scan to check the coil is in the correct position. The heavy periods and spotting are a normal side effect of the copper coil but losing control of your bladder isn't so it's worth checking everything is where it should be.
I had a copper IUD for five years when I started getting very heavy periods that lasted 2 weeks. I would soak up a super plus tampon and have blood on my pad in a matter of 2 or 3 hours. It waa very uncomfortable and not normal. I went and got a pap smear and my results were abnormal. Turns out I had a lesion on my cervix and was diagnosed with pre cancerous cells. I advise you get into the docs office right away and check that your IUD is in place and get a pap done. Hopefully you dont have the same experience that I did, but because this happened to me, I suggest to get a pap test. It cant hurt to do so. Take care.
