Ovarian cyst

I'm just wondering about ovarian cysts and if anybody had them? What were your symptoms and how it was treated and how long do you spend in hospital if getting one removed? Thanks

Hi Lisa,

Im male and cant reply from personal experience therefore There are different types of cysts and not all require to be removed. In fact, they can appear and disappear. Was it picked up on a routine ultrasound ?

Some of them come and go with your cycle, right?

Exactly , and some are more common with progestogen based contraception.

From personal experience, as someone who has had a cyst burst - that was probably one of the single most painful things I have ever suffered from, and I once drove a sewing machine needle through my finger by accident. My treatment was painkillers and a gynecology referral - it's believed I have PCOS which makes sense as I also had ovarian cysts. I bled when it ruptured, I have the hormonal coil and don't get periods so this is how I know. I also have a cycle that is pretty much all over the show, which is another symptom of multiple cysts, apparently.

I think unless the cyst is very large they won't surgically remove it. Using a method of contraception that prevents ovulation can help prevent ovarian cysts such as the combined pill.
