Why are thrush symptoms persisting after thrush is gone?

Almost two months ago I had sex and as a result I got thrush. I treated the thrush and while that cleared after initial treatment, I still have the itching associated with thrush.

I have been tested for stis, thrush and bv but have no idea what is causing this itching as they were all clear. Could it just be sensitivity? If anyone has any ideas how to improve this it would be much appreciated.

Calendula cream may be useful if you have tested negative for other issues.

Also consider whether you may be allergic to anything.... Washing powder, soaps, condoms...

1 where is the itching - internal external or both 2 what testing did you have , just a swab or was microscopy done in a sexual health clinic also ?

The itching is more or less just external but I will get internal itching if I insert something into my vagina. I was tested for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV, trichomonas, syphilis, thrush and bv which all came back clear. I believe it was just swab testing but I was examined internally and externally by the nurse who couldn’t see anything abnormal. Thank you for taking the time to reply, it’s much appreciated.

thank you. Not all itching is caused by candida . If all of the tests were negative, I would try washing the area with aqueous cream only, not soap or shower gel, and consider topical steroid like hydrocortisone 1% twice daily for 2-3 weeks and see if it settles.

most welcome

This is what happened to me after I had thrush, went back to the doctors because I thought the treatment wasn’t working got a swab and it came back normal, I was so confused, still don’t know the cause of it. What helped relieve itching is using an emollient in the shower or bath and wearing cotton underwear. But now I have thrush again so it’s a never ending cycle really 🙁Keep going to the doctors and ask to get referred to a Gyno if no improvement.

Hey there! It's not spoken about very much as jtd bard to diagnose, but you might be experiencing vulvadynia. If you have the pain of a UTI of Thrush vut all the tests come back clear then this is very common, its a chronic pain disorder and sounds scary but it's not dangerous and can be managed. It took me a long time to get a diagnosis, and now I have thrush for the first time and it just feels how I normally do so I won't know when the treatment has actually worked!
