Grieving for my cat

My cat was killed by a car yesterday and I'm so upset. I feel I had a special bond with him. I miss him. Is this normal grief or do I feel it more strongly as an autistic man, diagnosed at 55, 3 years ago?

Grief is a natural process. It is stronger the more you are attached to thing that you have lost. Some people may not understand how you are feeling because they don’t understand your relationship with your cat. It is natural to feel how you do.

I’m sorry for your loss.

You're the only one who truly knows how intensely you're feeling, but every grief usually feels very strongly. Allow yourself to go through this process as you need. Something that has helped me personally has been to do something to honour their memory: a pictures collage, a poem/prose about especial experiences together, a tattoo,.. basically anything that helps you focus how lucky you were for sharing part of your life with him. I'm very sorry for your loss and I send you strength in these difficult times. Take care x

I am so sorry for your loss. I have 2 cats and a dog but haven’t lost a pet yet - my oldest lady (cat called Diesel) is 15 and on lots of medication to keep her well. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be for you. It must be heartbreaking. Grief is so tough to deal with. Especially when it’s with another soul you’ve had a deep connection with. I agree with Cat33, take it one day at a time. Sending healing hugs to you 💫
