Not really sure where to begin but i never really am. Im pretty high function and my main issue is judging and acting emotionally appropriate to situations. Currently my wife of the last 2+ years, and we been together for more then 6, is leaving me because my reaction to her have made her feel invalidated. This is the furthest from the way i feel then i can even explain. I need to unlearn certain behavioral responses. HELP.

Are you willing to take the steps necessary to learn how to refrain from judging and how to monitor your emotional reactions to situations?

If she hasn’t already moved on with no turning back, then it’s not too late for you to fix this. If you’re willing to learn, take the steps necessary to make real change. Get help from a psychologist who specializes in autism social skills. You can improve your relationship if you show you’re serious about learning and implementing the suggestions of a professional.

If you are willing to put in the time and effort and she hasn’t completely moved on, then there is hope for your relationship but you have to back your words with action. Best to you -

I've sent several emails last night looking for a professional. I went as far as contacting NAMI in my area to see who they recommend but haven't heard back yet.

I don’t know that NAMI will have suggestions for psychologists specializing in Autism but you never know. It takes time. They are a good organization.

I would also try psychologytoday.com/us.

Finally, also go through your health insurance if have insurance, to see what providers they list treat adult Autism.

Be patient with the process.
