Has anyone been diagnosed with Hashimotos Enceph... - Ataxia UK
Has anyone been diagnosed with Hashimotos Encephalopathy?
It’s a rare diagnosis, but one of three that I have gotten
I have seen several neurologists and have gotten three different diagnoses.
1) possible MSA
2) sporadic ataxia or a genetic kind that has not been identified yet
3) Hashimotos encephalopathy, I think based on lab tests for thyroid antibodies and thyroid history and symptom onset of ataxia.
I have received 15 infusions of IVIG, I got a memory boost early on but no improvement in balance or coordination. I continue to progress.
Hi Jerry,
My ataxia is 'possibly' genetic but not yet identified. The thing is, I had an MRI
in 2000 which showed abnormalities in arteries at the base of my skull, these
were distorting the medulla, I was experiencing balance problems. An MRI
last year showed atrophy of the cerebellar, the previous MRI is now not
available for comparison, although I have the written results. Currently I'm
persuing investigation into a Thyroid condition because of a range of related
symptoms.
I've had Iritis and have double vision, and have had Nystagmus, although this
doesn't effect me at the moment.
How frustrating to have had 3 different diagnosis, from experts.
