I took part in exams years ago. I am actually going to offer to do them again. I remember one of my anatomy lecturers at University (who was also a medical doctor) telling me he had a patient with FA in his finals and so he has never forgotten about the disorder. I enjoyed doing it for a couple of reasons it helps to raise the awareness of ataxia in the medical profession and it also helps to further education. From my experience the examining doctors were very kind and helpful and made sure the candidates did not hurt me in any way. Although they might not tell you, the examiners are very grateful to you for helping as it can be very difficult to recruit patients

I do remember one candidate thinking that I had syphilis (this can cause neurological symptoms). He was lucky not to be hit over the head with the book I was reading!!

Have you taken part in exams for doctors?
