Hi I’ve got sca2 have asked many questions on here and had helpful replies. I use a rollator inside and out all the time. Recently every time I use it I have the feeling of falling backwards. Even brushing my teeth I have to lean on the sink. Only just started feeling this. I hope other people have the same experience.

louise xx

I guess this is why we rollator users expect to eventually move to a wheelchair. Hang on as long as you can. Exercise to keep your legs and upper body strong. Think "is my rollator strong and stable enough?" Keep smiling ......

🤔It’s possible ..that using a different version of a rollator would be helpful…the Upwalker enables the user to lean fore-arms on the supports and grip handles, it could help prevent backward falls.

This is an Upwalker..a version of a rollator.

most definitely. I have a 3 wheeler for upstairs and another for downstairs and my big boy for outdoor and taking in the car is a 4 wheel with seat. My OT arranged for me to have a perching seat for either kitchen or bathroom, so maybe you could look at one of those for your bathroom xx

Our shower. What is a perching stool? Don’t know if it would be any good xx

A perching stool was issued to me by O/T but it was no use.

It is a high stool with a back but I didn't feel safe on it.

like cocoa says - it's an adjustable stool with a back and arms. Seat tilts slightly forward. Not to be used as an everyday seat, but for sitting at sink should be ok. Is there a mobility shop near where you live so you can see and try out perhaps x

Hi Louise I can definitely identify with you, I was diagnosed with ataxia of unknown type in 2006. I worked full time until lockdown 2020. I'm 55 and the good thing about not working is I have more free time to do exercise, balance, strength and cardio (rowing machine). I do believe this is v.important. As for feeling like you're falling backwards, this is very common with Ataxia, so you're not alone.
