Calming the central nervous system

Hi, I get quite a lot of pain from my idiopathic ataxia. Most often in my lower back and neck, but the pain can be in any muscle at all. I don't think that my pain is neuropathy pain from the descriptions that I've read.

I work twice a week with a physiotherapist/oestopath. I have had checks to see if the lower back pain is caused from anything mechanical and except for the cushioning between the coccyx and last lumber disc being warn away there really is nothing else. The physiotherapist thinks that my central nervous system is kinda overworking and causes me stress/anxiety and pain. So I'm asking if anyone takes any medication to calm their nervous system, which can be taken long term? I do have alprozolam tablets that I very rarely take because if the long term side effects, but when I do take them the next day I feel so much better .

I'd really appreciate knowing what other people take to calm their nervous system down please xx

Hi Wibb

I suffer from lower back pain but put it down to the way I walk if you walk differently from the way we are supposed to I suppose it can cause pain. A bit like a car with broken suspension. Clonazepam works well for me in slowing down the nervous system 👍🏻.

Take care my friend and be happy x
