Indian Head Massage

I've got Cerebellar Ataxia and would like to ask has anyone tried Indian Head Massage and/or shoulders and neck massage?

I suppose I'm a little bit apprehensive that it will be ok and not hurt and that I would need to explain about my Ataxia.

I'm aware that I get a stiff neck when I'm stressed and if I've been concentrating too much and not taking care of my posture . Gently doing neck exercises including pushing my head forward and slowly tracing a figure of eight in the air with my nose helps. I also have an orthopedic pillow (an excellent recommendation from someone on this forum).

I don't see IHM as a treatment for ataxia, but I found it very good for mood and relaxation, and not at all painful....

🤔I saw a post recently from someone who felt they had benefit/relief from neck massage…But it doesn’t cure ataxia.

🤔I’ve wondered whether Cranial Osteopathy would help relieve my Vestibular issues..I’m getting no help elsewhere.

🙂 Give the IHM a go..If it makes you feel worse just don’t continue

Several years ago, years before ataxia symptoms, I had therapy from an Oesteopath ..for what seemed to be a trapped nerve in my neck.

🙂 I found it very relaxing

Several years on..thinking it might sort ‘weird neurological symptoms’ that I thought might be caused by whiplash incidents..I allowed a Chiropracter to jerk my neck. .never again.

I think IHM are very gentle. I had one years ago before I had any ataxia symptoms. They can be a bit emotional, people are known to cry or laugh during them - but get all those emotions out I say! It may well help any cranial headaches that you may suffer from - I know I suffer from those sometimes xx

I love massages of any kind and try and have them regularly. There are no contraindications as far as I'm aware
