Coping with ataxia in colder weather.

Hi everyone, i have some days when it is difficult coping with all the challenges that Ataxia brings.

With the weather getting colder and stiffness getting worse and so symptoms increase, just moving about indoors has become more of a problem. But sitting still is not the answe for me because then the stiff legs really kick in!

How do others cope? With heating energy bills rising it is a real problem. Do others suffer with this stiffness and has it a name? Is it plasticity?

THANKS

I do find colder weather seems to aggravate my CA symptoms & I agree, sitting down is a problem.

Stiff legs are a problem because because we are more likely to have a fall ... best to exercise sitting down and stay safe x

Cold weather affects me too. I don't get the stiffness but ataxia is definitely worse in cold weather.

I have invested in thermal clothes, even thermal trousers. I have two duvets on the bed too. It is better to wrap up warm than worry about heating bills.

yes the cold bothers me too, I get pains in my hands if they get too cold. It also brings out my tremors more, so really tiring. I always have my hot water bottle when feeling cold. I was thinking about buying a electric blanket that you can wrap up in, my sister bought one it’s nice and costs pennies to run so good.

Hi Penelope, the only thing that I find is worse in the colder weather is cold feet. I suffer with neuropathy in extremities, mainly feet. I have 4.8 tog thermal socks and a heated throw when sitting
