I do about 15 minutes most mornings, as soon as I wake up, then 5-10 minutes before dinner in the evening - various exercises on a mat at home, I use a pilates ring too (currently phasing in more exercises with it).
I should aim on doing these exercises for a bit longer (my neurologist told me to!), though I certainly feel doing smaller amounts on a daily basis helps me. Over Christmas, I skipped it for a couple of days and wow... I felt it afterwards, just skipping two days worth.
We're all different in terms of how often and how long we should be doing it, though yes - it's certainly good to do!
Glad you are doing exercise, my physio says exercise is neurpplaciticity and the brain will remember what you doYes everyone is different and have to find what works for them
Before I search, do you have a recommendation, y’know, like an online course or tips?
A good start is at nhs.uk/conditions/nhs-fitne...
I swear by Pilates. It’s the increase in core strength but also spinal flexibility that is so valuable to us wobbly people From what I understand, other disciplines like yoga, tai chi etc can have a similar effect.
I have been doing Pilates for years, and I find it to be immensely helpful for strengthening my core, improving my muscles everywhere, and especially for balance. There is almost no standing upright. It is very difficult at first and becomes progressively easier. Lucky for me, I have a very strong core, so if I start to fall I can usually catch myself before I hit the floor or the wall or shelf....
I have been doing Pilates for almost 3 years and swear by it. The exercises have given me huge confidence, flexibility and insight into my dodgy Balance
Just signed up for a chair Pilates zoom at ataxia uk, I guess there’s still places… Anyway, type Pilates into the search box.
