Ataxia spasticity: Has anyone got this,if so what... - Ataxia UK
Ataxia spasticity
Yes, I have spasticity. My arms, legs and virtually anywhere in my body can spasm.
I did take baclofene for a few years, but then it stopped working and actually started to make my spasticity worse so my neurologist took me off them.
I now have no medication for my spasticity. I have to do stretching exercises regularly otherwise the muscles become painful. I see a physiotherapist twice a week and he stretches me and massages me. My neck contracts a lot, and if left will give me migraines.
The baclofene may work for you though
Thanks for your repy.Yes i have been on baclophen for 3 years but just seem to be getting worse.I was on 1 in morning 1 lunch time 2 at night but just resently they put me on2,2,2 & i have been terrible just falling asleep throughout the day so just weaning off them as they just not helping exept i sleep well.at night.Where do you go for physio,is it NHS.
I've had ataxia 20+ years and have spasticity, My neurologist says that ataxia and spasticity go hand in hand for most. I tried taking Baclophen but it really didn't help me and made me extremely tired, therefore any neurologist took me off of it. I try to exercise daily and that seems to help. Also PT (physical therapy) is helpful for me. ;o)
