Fall

Hi

On Tuesday night I had a fall, I fell out of my house and down the 2 steps onto my drive, long story :-). Like everyone who has a fall I keep replaying the fall in slow motion. My question this time is my confidence seems to have gone. It seems to be taking me longer to do things and my ataxia seems worse. Will this pass?

From my own experience with CA, I can be two different people in two days. One day I can walk so so and see where I'm going after I've changed glasses several times, then the next day might be 'just can't do this my legs ache so bad'

Keep trying, a little at a time, don't give up.

Jean

🥴 Falls didn’t used to scare me, I’d just wait until I landed somewhere, but now I have difficulty getting back up, and afterwards I feel shaken and disorientated. I hope you’re able to get your confidence back soon 🙂

Each time I fall, my confidence gets knocked down one more peg, especially if I injure myself! Over the years, I've fractured my pelvis, fractured two ribs, tore the menicus in my knee, requiring surgery, split the back of my head open, so I had to have nine staples to close the wound and various lumps and bruises. Used to be when I fell, I'd bounce...,not so much anymore...,ha! It's a comedy of errors trying to get up off the floor anymore! Inspite of it all, I REFUSE to give up or give in to this! ;o)

I think I'm lucky to not have broken anything. I think it's made me more aware I must concentrate on every thing I do but sometimes we're thinking about something else and our minds wander. I'll try to stay positive and hope my confidence comes back.

From my experience, the confidence comes back slowly and the replay goes. However, I fell down the drive we had just had done for me and made the Ataxia worse, which, unfortunately, never improved. I broke my elbow. At least you’re in tact. That’s the main thing. It all happens so fast, yet we find a way to best save ourselves. Try to put it behind you and best wishes.

I'm thankfull I didn't break anything unlike you. It all happened so quick I knew I was falling and couldn't save myself. I'll try and think positive and hopefully I'll get a bit of confidence back, thanks for your kind words.

We mostly can't save ourselves, can we! So sorry, I am sure many of us emphasize and I bet it hurt, I won't walk on tarmac without help because of the fear of really damaging myself. Do you have handrails? An occupational therapist will advise and you may get them for free if you don't, ask at your GP if you are in the UK and explain you fell badly? Sometimes even having rails won't stop it happening. We fitted stair rails and they have helped me so much. Empathy with you!

Thanks Pinjem have got a handrail and this time it didn’t save me. Just one of those times when I didn’t concentrate .I'm lucky I live in a bungalow don’t know how I’d manage with stairs. Thanks for your comment 😀. Still sore seems to have got worse this weekend, just hoping it goes for next week cos am off work.

Concentration! We have to nearly all the time or push our luck. I hope you have a good week off and you recover quickly. Arnica might help, bit late now but it helps me with big bruises? Not sure everyone would agree.

I'm glad it's not just me who has to concentrate. The tineiest thing can enter your head and you'll fall. Mine was my new solar light heron round my pond :-)was thinking about that and I wasn't concentrating hence a bruised rib cage. My bruising must be internal does arnica still work if you can't see the bruise? Thanks for the comments.

Arnica certainly makes a big difference to me with any bruise or trauma. Read up about it? I have not heard anything negative about it ever. I do think you just have to be a bit careful about what you ingest, I have tiny tablets but cream works as well.

Thanks for you kind words, can't believe people read this in other countries. When someone answers a comment I always look where they're from. Where abouts are you in the States?
