Just wondering if anyone (called Joe😉) has an opinion on this? Just read about it improving symptoms in MND (in mice) and wondered if it's worth trying...think it's similar to ptrostilbene? My husband's mum's diagnosis was MND in the end so I keep an eye on research into that too!
Resveratrol: Just wondering if anyone (called Joe... - Ataxia UK
Resveratrol

You are too funny! It's very late in England right now. Shouldn't you be in bed??

Anyways, . . .
I have an opinion on everything just ask my wife, BUT my opinions are most definitely NOT always right. So there's that . . .
-
Resveratrol is it potentially helpful for ataxians?
-
I can't do a better job than this gentleman so here's his take:

IF and this is a very controversial IF, but IF resveratrol helps then pterostilbene should be WAY better because it is a Sirtuin activator like resveratrol, BUT it is much more easily absorbed by the body.
-
There is ongoing debate about SIRTUIN activation. Sometimes it appears to be beneficial and sometimes not so much. I base my judgements on 3 facts. First, we know people who drank red wine or ate blueberries saw positive benefits. Second, research to date shows that if humans saw a benefit from a food then the extract increases that benefit. Third, neurological diseases require a multi-pronged attack meaning it's not about one therapy or one pill. It's about finding a good combination for each individual case.

It is my opinion that pterostilbene is better than resveratrol. I take 50 mg a day of pterostilbene.

Remember . . . talk to your doc first

Joe
P.S. I hope you won't mind if I post a link to my Facebook page. I just hate the anonymity of the internet when dealing with such a serious issue . . . and I feel like FB sorta makes it more personal.
P.P.S. Don't know if you have checked recently, but I also have been updating my "alternative therapy" post regularly. I know your husband hates pills, but I would just say that SCA3 has no cure right now, and it causes a bunch of problems that won't likely be fixed by one simple cure so we, patients, need to try attacking it from ALL sides.
Thank you Joe! I will keep him on the 50 mg of pterostilbene for now!
It was late last night, hence why I fell asleep soon after posting - and pretty early now ... We are off to the New Forest for a weekend of walking and pony spotting!
