Sometimes it's hard to meet the criteria, because it only benefits those whose progression is far enough along to cause severe disability and function loss. So, I agree, you pay the high premiums with no benefits. It can get very complicated, these insurance plans. It's best to always read the fine print.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that you've got problems in claiming against your insurance policies. We find that this happens quite frequently with ataxia and other rare diseases as the insurance companies aren't familiar with the conditions. The Ataxia UK Helpline has helped a number of people who have had these problems to get their entitlements, so please feel free to contact us. (0845 644 0606

Monday-Thursday 10:30am to 2:30pm) In addition, the Genetic Alliance is intending to do some campaigning around these problems, and is doing a survey to collect information from patients about the difficulties they encounter with insurance companies. surveymonkey.com/r/genomics... t would be really good if you completed it. I hope you can manage (eventually) to get what's rightfully yours! Best wishes, Sue

I and my sister eventually managed to claim on our policies but it took ages! Keep trying! I had a pay out for a lump sum eventually but my yearly one still needs a letter despite being told my condition is progressive. Good luck x

To be honest we were very lucky and the broker guy who took out our policies is a good friend and stepped in when they started being silly. I think that its helped they had paid out a lump sum for my sister a few years back.

I have 2 policies (with different firms). A lump sum (paid) and a monthly one but this is annoying because despite being told every time, needs an annual reminder that I am not getting better.

If you have a neurologist then may be a letter explaining MIGHT help??

Sorry cannot help more x
