Hi Sue🙂 A few years ago I tried mainstream Pilates with a friend, of course it wasn't long before I realised I couldn't keep up with the class, apart from some of the exercises making me feel ill😏 I found out that one to one sessions could be specially tailored for individual needs, that might suit you better 🤔 I didn't go on to pursue this myself, so unfortunately I can't comment. As far as physio for ataxia goes, usually a Neurophysiotherapist can give the best advice, again often it depends on individual ability and strengths etc. You could ask your GP for a referral, I saw one myself for help with BPPV (benign paroxysmal posterior vertigo), this started off as dizziness when turning over in bed🙄 Good luck🙂xBeryl

🙂 if you would like to try some exercises at home, there's specific ataxia related advice on ataxia.org

On the Home Page, click 'what is ataxia'

Scroll down the next page almost to the bottom, and click 'download our ataxia Fact Sheets for free'

See ' Coordinative Physiotherapy'

This is general advice so may not be achievable, or suitable to everyone. Never put yourself in an unsafe position. If in doubt ask a GPs opinion 🙂xB

I started a programm of exercises in a school I work for children with motor skills diff, who were later diagnosed with dyspraxia.and some investigated with Speech, Dyslexia, Learning/ behaviour, ADHD, Aspergers/autism. After being on the programm they were no longer investigated and stopped getting Dyspraxia. I wrote a book and had over 44 schools doing my programm. |then I got Ataxia and Autheritus in my spine so I gave up. I was on 6 painkillers every 4 hours for the pain, I wobbled, My speech was going. So I thought all my symptoms were like Dyspraxic children. Their balance was bad and my exercises were for the left and right so that's what I do. I also do at home pilates DVD for lower back pain which concentrates on your core £7.99 Amazon by Alen Menzies who was told he would be in a wheelchair, and now teaches it. I no longer wobble, My daughter says my speech is back and I take 1 painkiller at night so I wake up and do my pilates everyday with no pain. I paid hundreds and nothing worked.

I have the same, Please buy the DVD from Amazon. Just start with the floor exercises. At the end I do an exercise for my left/right, called the windmill which was invented by an Australian Doctor.

Stand against a wall or something you can fall into if you wobble (Trust me I did, now I can do it on my own)

Kick your left leg out twice( count 1,2 ) then punch out your left arm/hand up (and count 3 ) then punch the right arm/hand out ( count 4) then the right leg twice ( count 5, 6,) then back around. The right arm/hand (7) left arm/hand (8) then the left leg kick out(9,10) keep doing it, around like a windmill 11...12...13,14,....15...16...17,18.and so on. Start off doing maybe 20 and just build up. I do 200 after every exercise and I feel wonderful. I do it everyday and the children did it before lessons. This week I started 40 of all The DVD exercises and feel better all ready. I am not obsessed or a nutcase but I am doing the same as I was 2 years ago, its hard but worth it. if you have trouble walking please use a walker it gives you more confidence and you can put your bags on for shopping.
