Hi, I have FA and was diagnosed in 1991. I recently turned 40 and am now getting letters from my GP to have a check up. I know it's a routine letter about routine tests, but are there particular tests I could ask for to make it more relevant to me?
Thanks

The only routine test carried out by a GP that is relevant to FA (that I can think of) is for diabetes. I hope you get that checked regularly anyway.
I think it is great your GP is asking you in for a routine check up. I know it is sometimes difficult to get to GP surgery and appointments can be physically arduous (speaking from experience!) but our general health is important, especially for us/those with an underlying chronic disorder. I recently turned 40 and haven't had a similar letter. I will have to get on to my GP surgery!...
Hi there, the test that will get done are for cholesterol and HBalc ( a test for diabetes), they will also check your blood pressure, ask about lifestyle things like smoking ,drinking exercise and things, look at your family history and give you some information about your cardiovascular risk.
It's really a heart health check and everyone between 40-74 in England without any other circulation related problems, will be invited for one.
Most people find it worthwhile and is always good to check your general health, especially when you have another chronic condition, as Harriet says. I hope that's helpful.
