Numb end of nose: Hello everyone...does anyone get... - Ataxia UK
Numb end of nose
Hi Kareen!!
I don't know if you have seen any of my posts already but I am currently waiting for test in relation to SCA2 but for the last 3 years I have been experiencing numbness in my nose, under my eyes and onto my forehead it started as pins and needles in the end of my nose and numbness... you are the only other person I have heard that has experienced the same sort of thing!
Do you have ataxia? if so have you been given which kind it is?
Thanks
Toni xx
Hi Toni, yes I have sca6 ,I don't get pins and needles it's just a numbing feeling ,I have been diagnosed for 2 years I am 44 I live in Enfield..where r u from ? X
I'm in Wakefield. When my nose started it was the strangest thing. It was only when other parts of me that we're going numb did they refer me to a neurologist. No one knew what it was and I was asked if I was on drugs... Did I use a face scrub... Had I been in a fight recently and in the end after seeing an ear nose and throat doctor and him saying 'see a skin dr' I gave up with it they didn't know (and still don't know) however this was all prior to be learning about my dads condition so I am wondering if it is linked xx
Yes, I frequently experience numbness at the tip of my nose, its bewildered me. I was diagnosed four years ago with late onset SCA and I'm coming up to 72 years of age. The sensation isn't accompanied by discomfort of any sort and until I read your mail I hadn't associated it with SCA. I look forward to reading of any discoveries you make in this area.
Yes, I get tingling/pins&needles then numbness on the end of my nose, around my mouth&eyes and in my fingers on occasions and have done for some years now. After some exploration, both my nuerologist and doctors have decided that it's an early sign of a migraine coming on. I have been prescribed Sumatriptan, it doesn't stop the numbness but the discomfort & fatigue that follows, at least it's stopped me worrying, things always seem better when you have a diagnosis at least you know you're not imagining it. I'm not saying this is what your numbness is but, if it's worrying you, get a medical opinion and don't give up until you get an answer!
Keep smiling :o)

Hi Kareen...
I also get facial numbness that affects chin, lips, palate (!!) and extends to the brows and forehead. Not happy when I repeatedly bite my lips/cheeks...but it can be a plus when having my brows waxed! Regretfully, this is one of the many weird and not always wonderful niggles that doesn't seem to be of interest to doctors.
May I also ask if you - or anyone reading - has any kind of neurodermatitis? If so, do you have any top tips? Also, one of the very weird things which accompanies the indescribable itchiness is a feeling in the ear, as though there's a moth in there! It drives me MAD! I have mentioned it to both the neurologist and dermatologist who each have registered no curiosity. Can anyone else relate to this?
Best wishes to you all x
My nose gets freezing! My tongue gets numb at times. I have ataxia undiagnosed and Primary Progressive MS. Severe numb Feet and Hands. Right dudes pain . Came down with ataxia within 48 hrs after color scope given Profafolas a sleep med.
Hello ev1 sorry I have been ill for a while so haven't been on..well I found out why my nose was going numb..it was the tablets I was on called pregabaline..I hope that's the right spelling...I stopped them about 6 weeks ago and touch wood no numbing of my nose..but they helped the pain in my legs which are so bad..happy new year hope you are all doing well xx
Hi there, I have SCA6 and suffer terribly with pins and needles especially in my hands. I'm waiting for some nerve conduction tests but I also get a numb nose and numbness and soreness on the right side of my face like a burn pain. I also suffer with very painful legs and joints, no arthritis though but I'm on Pregablin which is very interesting Kareen although it really helps with the pain so I think I'd rather have a numb nose.
It was my first sign of IIH. You can look for intracranial hipertension.
