No one has ever told us about the ataxia centres, my husband sees a neurologist annually only to monitor him. Should we be asking for a referral to the ataxia centre, what can they do for him.

Should we ask for a referral to the ataxia centre
Hi I just see a neuroligist yearly even though I live near Newcastle I have never been offered appointment at Ataxia centre
Hi I didn't know there was an ataxia canter, anyone know where this is?
Is there anyone on here from Northamptonshire or near to here? I'm happy to talk to everyone and I'm sure my partner is but we'd like to meet up with a few fellow I don't want to say sufferers so I think warriors are best, is there anything out there for people to meet up?
Check out the Ataxia UK website , Just put Ataxia UK into google or similar. you can get most info on Centres there. And there is a help line should you get stuck. Best wishes.
Usually, new patients seeking diagnosis are referred there ( that's at Newcastle). It's not essential to be seen at an Ataxia Centre, the advantage is that on clinic days they have a multidisciplinary team. This means anyone traveling any distance can be referred to various therapists at one appointment. I was diagnosed at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, before the Ataxia Centre opened.
But, anyone can ask their GP for a referral to an Ataxia Centre, appointments are only by referral.
