Limited time driving licence

Has anybody had any problems renewing their drivers licence? I had re-applied for my 3 yearly drivers licence over a month ago and have only received a letter of acknowledgement. Not sure if I'll be allowed one again?

Ian, if your Neurologist doesn't report any change in your condition, you'll probably get your license in due course, it does take ages doesn't it!

I been on 3yrly licenses for about 20 yrs. My current license expires next year and

I've an appointment with my Neurologist in January, so I hope nothing new shows up!

:-)xB

Thanks. I haven't seen my Neurologist since 2011.

I haven't either Ian, for some reason I've never had a yearly review.

I requested an appointment because I was told I had a connection with a new gene. I'm in two minds now! :-) xB

When I reapplied for my three year licence, it took them TWO YEARS to authorise it. You must keep in touch with them because you are not automatically allowed to drive - I had to reapply twice for something which allowed me to continue to drive whilst they messed about with my application. I also had to attend a driving assessment which lasted an hour, as well as an interview. All very stressful, but I passed. Good luck, and keep pestering them.

My first time round I had to sit a driving assessment too Catherine. Don't know if I could be bothered doing it all over again?

The DVLA doesn't seem to be the most efficient of organisations. It took five months this year for my license to be returned even though my neurologist reported no complications. The covering letter is fine but I could easily have needed my license in order to hire a car abroad. This dept of the DVLA needs to get its act together.

If you write back to the DVLA quoting the reference on their letter you can ask for a letter which confirms that you can continue to drive and this will then give you

full cover if required by the police or your insurance company. The letter states that you must notify the DVLA if your condition gets worse in relation to your driving capability. Best wishe. Tedjohnson

Thanks all. Good advice.

I applied for mine over 2 months ago having completed medical questionnaires. Am still waiting. As you haven't been disqualified from driving you should be ok.

I am just looking for information about why someone with SCA might be denied a drivers license. Would it be most likely because of symptoms such as vision problems, or nausea problems? My balance seems to be just fine when I am sitting in a car, so I am a little confused. What can you tell me about that?

Coordination in my legs and hands/arms are my main problems jneilw51. I had to be referred by my doctor to be assessed using only hand controls as I was becoming a danger to myself and others as my legs would shake/tremble whenever I moved them on and off foot peddles. I use a steering ball (left hand) and push/pull lever (right hand). I am now having problems with cramping on my left hand and fear that I may have to give up driving all together.
