First post. Asthma and Covid

Feel compelled to write my first post, my ex-wife is awaiting the outcome of a Covid test, what concerns me is that I had my son over this weekend past and Monday she tells me she has aches and shortness of breath, over night a cough developed

I’ve always had mild asthma, taking my ventolin as and when I need it. I’ve got a lot fitter over the summer because I needed to.

How have people coped with Covid and Asthma? If she tests positive, I’ll have to await onset of my own symptoms but keen to hear of other stories out there.

I'm sorry to hear that your wife has covid. But if your an asthmatic you must ensure you try and protect yourself.

Even if she tests positive you may well not get COVID.However even if you do contract it. Being asthmatic does not worsen the illness or severity. When COVID first became a reality there were (obviously) concerns that asthmatics would be at higher risk of serious illness. Over time this has proved untrue.

Hope things turn out fine for your ex-wife.

Just replied to someone who wanted to increase their peak flow.Basically last Christmas/New Year I had what we all suspect was covid. Among my other symptoms my peak flow plummeted.

I doubled up on my brown inhaler, did deep breathing exercises - a cross between diaphragmatic breathing and 4:7:8 breathing which seemed to help because my peak flow got back to normal after a week or so of doing that.

I only used my Clenil preventer, didn’t use my ventolin - just did lots of deep breathing and breath holding exercises but I absolutely walloped through the Clenil, I don’t think I’ve ever used so much so quickly.

So breathing exercises, loads of Clenil morning and night plus lots of rest and lots of water partly to stay hydrated - only ate the odd slice of dry toast - and partly because I lost my sense of taste and nothing tasted right.

I am asthmatic and had Covid in April. I had a dry cough for 6 weeks, but many non asthmatics also had dry coughs for several weeks. My asthma did not worsen whist I had covid.

I feel other factors may be more significant than asthma, i.e. age and other underlying health conditions.

Hi , I had Covid months ago and was ill for a week . The coughing was tiresome but it did not exacerbate my asthma . For the vast majority of people corona virus is nothing to worry about , so relax !

A bunch of us on here have had it and been ok. For me, it felt like an asthma flare. It attacked my heart quite a bit which I hadn't expected, I was much more worried about my lungs as a severe asthmatic. Keep us posted on how you're doing and what your test result is. And check the archives--there have been a ton of threads written on here by people who had covid-
