6mn test again..

Hi Asthma friends

I knew I had slowed down, I lost 10% on the distance covered but my oxygen saturation is a 100%!!..I just asked the doctor how is it that my peak flow is 270, I feel sick, I am coughing, I have to take all those meds and my oxygen levels are that high..So I am waiting for the answer..

Good question, I'd be curious to hear their theory.

in reply toOperanut72

I'll tell you when he mails me back :))

in reply toOperanut72

Well he wrote to me to say he would explain at my next appointment, that is was a complex problem because in fact some people with 80% saturation would not feel breathless and other people (like me I suppose) would..the nurse said it has to do with my FEV1

That makes sense we tend to worry more about PEF with asthma whereas FEV1 is the better indicator of lung function. I suspect there will be pressure from Resp Conslts to cease measuring PEF in the near future. Hope he gives an understandable answer.

in reply toOperanut72

Well Fev1 is lower in people with asthma, COPD..as I have this lung disease called LAM, they check if FEV1 decreases..I am working on it!!^^

It is bit like comparing apples to pears and obviously FEV1 is more used for cases where PEK is harder to perform. It sounds like you've got a hell of a bag of symptoms. Keep on fighting the decline.

in reply toOperanut72

Well I had 3 monthly check ups and now 6 monthly..blowing for ages in the cabin with your nose pinched^^

I thought I was just asthmatic for years until I had a CT scan..although something was telling me I wasn't right..anyway that's life..as Gino said you have to carry on..what else..Luckily we have the forum to vent!! Better than having to explain and share with family and friends I find..

Great sats well done x

Hi hun, I hate to click 'like' to a post like that;0() You poor thing, it sounds rotten. I almost feel a fraud on here as my asthma is so much more under control than most on here, now that I've learn to avoid certain triggers. My ME is a drag but as the years have passed I've kin of got used to running on low energy batteries. The other thing that does frustrate me is that apart from moral support there is not much that I can suggest to you as regards getting better😪 You are probably the best expert on your own body. It's horrid in itself just to have such a low peak flow. You will know what to avoid such as dampness and severe cold at this time of year too... Ohhh....! Anyway sending a big hug and hope that your week improves. Take care..Gx

in reply toGino39

Hi Gino :))) Sweet of you..great you are feeling better.. 😊 sorry about the ME..you know your own body too..if you have got used to and know how to handle it you have won the battle I suppose.

Moral support is good thank you! 🎶🎶

I can't avoid dampness and cold really, I put a scarf on my nose and mouth but don't like it much..exercise is the only way to beat this thing so I go to the pulmonary rehab twice a week now..I just get fed up pumping all those inhalers in every four hours, and the early morning load of nebs! but I have to accept it all.. I went down to 250 it is climbing up very slowly.. anyway looking forward to Spring time! 🌺🌸🌷

PSG beat Barca that gave me a kick 😃

Take care Gino xx

Sorry you're feeling so rough :-( Hopefully your doctor will take everything into consideration and not just focus on the fact that your sats are 100% (((hugs)))

in reply toflossiew

Thanks Flossie, I'm not rough really, just very tired, it seems it is part of this LAM, tiredness that's why they push me to exercise^^ which wears me out of course..:)) Hope you are feeling better, thank you for the hugs :))

Hi

My Typical Peak Flow is 350 (a normal - non Astmatic - healthy person's Peak Flow for my height and age is around 600) but currently I'm in the 320 Range due to an exacerbation.

On a long course of oral steroids recently, and for that period of 4 to 5 Weeks I was hitting 400 frequently and - one occasion - 460 but the Peak Flow Improvements did not materialise until after 3 Weeks of Oral Steroid use.

Even on 350 I can comfortably walk 6 Miles at a reasonable pace (not speed walking I would add). Do wonder sometimes just how crucial Peak Flow is to every day activity and health in general.

Thinking of going onto Daily Oral Steroids of 10mg for 60 to 90 Days in Combo with Inhaler Change. One case study that grabbed my attention improved the Patients FeNO (an Inflammation Marker) from above 60 to 19 and that person had started to taper to 5mg. A FeNO of 19 is in the Range of Non Asthmatics who are typically under 20 FeNO. My recent FeNO was 87 but previously 132. An Asthmatic with FeNO that needs treating is considered to be one whose score is above 45.

Given the amount of Oral Steroid Burst Courses I get through, a Daily 10mg Dose would probably reduce my overall Oral Steroid Usage! My sense of smell has again vanished - scientifically tested by sniffing inside my coffee jar each day. Can't smell the beans at all presently. The oral steroids seem to correct that too, as discovered in the past.

Will push for a DEXA Test to make sure 'me ol bones' are not taking the Oral Steroids too hard. (Have already jacked up my dietary calcium to compensate + take Vit k2 + Vit D3 (to reduce calcium from leaching from my bones into my arteries) washed down by a Tasteless Form of Cod Liver Oil Caps. (Fish Oil has got a lot of good Asthma Press Recently and Cod Liver Oil may offer benefits over ordinary Fish Oil that's often less well refined). Nb: Gather that when you take Fish Oil of any kind it intstantlty diminishes your Vit E so am also taking 100iu of Vit E at same time.

Hope you feel better soon

Hi Matman, thank you for the info.

I am now just allowed a short course of oral steroids if I have an infection because I have osteopenia and LAM, the disease I have, encourages bone and teeth problems. I actually have to go to the endocrinologist to have a check up. But the nebuliser is good, it all takes time in your day..meds and pulmonary rehab now..it keeps me busy:))

I do take the Solgar Vitamin D, soft gels, it is quite good but my vitamin D is still low.
