Hello again, as I'm only dealing with this severe asthma in last two years(total denial for the first yr! Lol) I didn't take the flu jab last yr. do you all accept and agree it's necessary and defin needed for 'us' as I'm not really too sure.

Bless you all I had a good night sleep 4.5 hrs last night! 😄 So happy

I'd strongly advise you to get it. I've never had so much as a hint of any side effects & you scarcely feel it. I think its effectiveness can vary from year to year, but flu will have a devastating effect on you should you get it, so the balance of risk seems like a no-brainer.

PS - I had mine yesterday :)

I had really bad flu when i was about 15 and ended up on anti-biotic after anti-biotic and steroids. It totally ruinedible that Christmas. .... ever since I've had the flu jab

I personally dont get the flu jab I had it in Jan 2007 then in march that year I had flu really badly which then lead to pnemonia and pleurisy.

I do think it is a good idea to have it though, its just not for me I had the pnemonia jab though

The vaccine is non live so this was a coincidence not the jab. Every year the vaccine is different and has the most common strains for that year. Speak to your GP, Practice Nurse or hospital team.

Flu does kill or has a high level of complications.

Absolutely. We have enough to deal with without getting the flu. A 'real' case of influence can have a totally debilitating effect on even the fittest of people, so imagine how it would be when you are already compromised. It also helps to prevent the transference of this nasty virus. Prevention is better than cure.

Definitely it's not live and can't make you ill. The vaccine changes every year to have the most common strains in it. Flu kills.

Pneumococcal also a good idea although not given every year you need it boosted. Speak to your Practice nurse or GP.

I have personally only had the flu once in my 20s and I couldnt get out of bed. My husband had the flu in february and you forget how debeleting it is... So glad I had the flu jab last year.

I always get my flu jab now I äm eligible as I remember having flu many ago and I felt very ill. The thought of being unprotected now give me the heeby jeebies.

Interestingly even though I have asthma and copd my doctor refused me the pneumonia jab on the grounds that 'it is only necessary for those who have had pneumonia at least 3 times previously'.

On my next annual review the nurse asked me I had had a pneumonia jab. I said no and told her what the doctor had said. The look on her face said it all. She said rubbish and gave me one there and then! x

I've had pneumonia a few times and now I regularly receive the pneumonia vaccination. There are markers that show up in specific blood tests with regards to how immune you are which can help determine when you need it

Doctors differ and patients die lol sorry but they don't make life easy with so many different opinions and interpretations as my gp didn't hesitate in suggesting both! I hadn't had pneumonia before and hope I never have. Good on the nurse.

Sorry for late response I was battling with shingles and they where winning for a while but I'm on the up again thank goodness. Have a lovely day.

I have had the flu jab for the last nine/ten years, mainly cos I friend died from complication from the flu. I personally have never have had any side effects from the injection. Perhaps I take it as insurance.

Thank you for responding. I am seeing my gp this afternoon to have flu and pneumonia jab. On balance it's probably safer option. Lol might need reminding over next few days tho lol

Have a lovely day

Hi Olivia I have had the flu jab for years and I had to have the prevenar jab against pneumonia this year. I was weary of that one but didn't get any side effects. Also they have given me a box of bronchovaxom, a pill made out of different bacteria in small dosage to take the 1st 10 days of the month from november to january so will see if it helps as I get a lot of chest infections in the winter.

Take care xx

Hi, thank you for replying. I am seeing my gp and having both flu jab and pneumonia one this afternoon as I had to wait until dreadful shingles started at to ease up. ( still little worried but it can't be any worse than last few weeks! I guess)

I am so comforted by reading and having the support on here as it's harder to be objective when you are on your own. Again thank you (and everyone) for responding

Have a lovely peaceful day xx

Ok good luck with that Olivia and let us know how you are getting on. Yes it is a great support. Take care Dear
