I have a friend with a child with brittle asthma who desperately needs a neb at home,docs will not help with one. She is short of cash are there any charities which could help fund one she lives in lincolnshire.
Hi sorry to hear about your son and your friends. Doctors will prescribe a neb if needed so I can't nderstand why they won't. Has she asked them why not? I would assume there is a good medical reason. Don't forget a neb also requires meds suitable for it. x
She could set up a fundraising page and promote it on social media? Hope her Dr sees sense x
your GP should refer you to your hospital and they can loan you one, just as they did for me.
Asthma UK might have a grants department- perhaps you could suggest applying for a grant to purchase one?
As previously said it's not just the machine the GP needs to prescribe the nebulas. I agree go back and discuss reasons why not?
My gp said guidelines said i didnt need nebuluser at home for asthma. Since my using it i might not realuse how ill i was. Gp said if unwell she prefers to see me. So please check if its safe to use nebuluserat home for yr child. She also said it needed to be used with oxygen in a hospital or gp surgery under supervision of medical staff. So please enquire more about home use of nebuliser see thorasic guidelines.

I'm sure your COPD team would have one you/ they could borrow,,,,I was offered the use of one ,,but I bought one a few years ago ,,,,if she get around £45 they are selling them in lloyds pharmacy , go on face book see if anyone close by to you could Lend you one ,,,,good luck ,
Nebulisers at home are not recommended because experience has proved that people come to rely on the Nebuliser and use it, delaying emergency treatment. They are sometimes loaned by surgeries for a short time whilst the steroids and Antibiotics begin to take effect. I have had brittle Asthma all my life, and I would not get a Nebuliser for a child. It is too dangerous. If the childs Asthma is so bad that the child needs nebulising, then they need emergency medical treatment, at the surgery or hospital so that they can be monitored correctly. Ventolin Sambutamol which is prescribed for use with the Nebuliser does affect the heart, which is another reason why their use at home is not encouraged.

Hi so sorry for your loss it must be extremely hard for you and your family.
I have a 5 year old with brittle asthma we have multiple hospital admissions a year at one point it was literally every 2 weeks. My son would benefit massively for a neb at home but unfortunately they do not give any child under a certain age the use of a neb at home and they say if your child is bad then take them to hospital. This is because once you reach the maximum 10 puffs every four hours and your child still needs more they are at risk and need there saturation monitored and heart this is a serious condition. My son seems to drop all of a sudden and once he goes there is no coming back without hospital and steroids he has almost been to icu on a few occasions but just managed to stay in hdu with infusion very scary stuff. So after my long waffle sorry 🙏 lol it seems although harsh it's the safest practice not to give and if the inhalers are not working go straight to hospital don't leave it to chance xxx
