Hi, this is just self pity really, but I hate my inhalers. I hate the fact that every day I have to remember to take them. I hate the fact that they give me cramps, hoarse voice and I so rarely feel ""well"". I feel like just stopping to see what my chest would be like without them, after all I was fine until the one day when suddenly I wasn't.
I know stopping meds is stupid, but have any of you done this and if so what happened?

Please don't stop your inhalers without medical supervision. I wondered about what could happen if you stopped taking them and conducted my own experiment and was duly hospitalised.

Hey, I know how you feel. It's hard to get your head around the fact that you need them. People keep asking me why I'm so hoarse and I hate that... But it wouldn't be a good idea to stop them, just like that- I'm sure you know that too. And side effects are better than not being able to breathe. It's cool to have a moan here though, everyones in the same boat.

don't stop your inhalers at anytime when i was first given inhalers i was not aware of how severe asthma could get and i would not be too concerned if i miss a dose of the one preventer dose - now four years on its four inhalers (The extra two get added pre a&e visit!) and Theophylline therapy and im still bad and frequently on antibiotics.
Just think of long term prevention when you get to the stage your fed up using inhalers.
Know how you feel.hate having asthma and taking all my stuff
but realise I need them to keep me safe and breathing.
Please dont stop anything unless told by doc or hosp etc.

I know how you feel, I get it with all of my meds. Every now and then I'm sitting with my pile of drug boxes and get really annoyed and start talking to my partner about stopping them all. Every time, she reminds me just how unstable and unhappy I was without them. So I take them.
I don't blame you for hating them, the side effects suck. One of mine is that I shake really badly - this makes me spill things (e.g. cups of tea) and if i'm trying to eat something like cereal I make a right mess! Really embarrasses me. I can't eat soup in restaurants for the same reason!
Like the others said though, coming off them without your dr's supervision is a bad idea.

I also once tried to stop them all, as i was ill with them and in hospital all the time, so didn't really see how having them helped. Honest it does, and i too ended in hospital and felt like a bit of an idiot.
See the docs about side effects, do you use a spacer?
I must admit I absolutely love my Ventolin. I always have one on me or near me, and at night I make sure I can find it in the dark. It's been my constant companion for over 30 years...
Agree with the others - don't stop taking any meds without seeing your doctor first.
as the saying goes=been there ,done that. its not good having to take meds all of the time, i have a bucket load to take every day as well as my inhalers but trust me its worse if you stop. unless you like feeling like poop i would grin and bear it sorry 
Well, my lung doctors have tried to take me off of mine about three times, and everytime I get wicked sick and go into a really long, bad flare. Now I just refuse and go to my allergist who is also an asthma specialist who just put me back on oral steroids. At least I can breathe! But some of the times I've been off of my inhalers it's been very bad. But I can totally relate. I hate having to take all the meds too. It's one of the largest items in the budget I just made too. I can really suck.
Thanks for all the replies. It's annoying as well when people tell you that they or they know someone who stopped and was fine, just needed their ventolin now and again. Changing meds again hopefully can settle on one regime for a while.
I stopped mine once as I was pretty much symptom free for such a long time (clearly meant they were doing their job!!!) I actually went about 3 weeks without having any problems so thought I didn't need them, then played a football match and was very poorly. My asthma usually is induced by exercise or if I get a chest infection so that little experiment made it very clear to me that even if u feel well u still need the inhalers!

I suggest that you dont stop taking your medication, im on these seretide 250mg inhalers, what i take morning & at night. mine ran out, and i thought i would be ok for a few days without it, after about 4 days i had to go to the emergency doctor, due to my breathing

I'm on seretide 250 too. Thought I'd give it a bye for a night or two cos sore throat and cold made it difficult to sook it in. Much use of little blue inhaler the next day. Its not worth it. Gotta keep taking those meds.
