Patients call meeting about threat to child asthma care at Royal Brompton

I have reported in my blogs the potential threat to the children's asthma service at the Royal Brompton Hospital. The hospital believes that the proposed loss of its children's cardiac surgery will undermine its ability to provide children's respiratory care.

A meeting has now been organised by parents of children with respiratory conditions who are being treated at the Royal Brompton. It will take place from 6pm - 8pm on Monday 7 November at the Education Centre of the National Heart and Lung Institute (at the junction of Dovehouse Street and Cale Street, London SW3).

The aims of the meeting are to inform parents of the potential implications for their children's care resulting from the paediatric cardiac surgery review, to provide clinicians and commissioners with an opportunity to explain how any changes to the service would be managed and to provide parents with an opportunity to raise any concerns directly with clinicians and commissioners.

The meeting is being organised by parents and is being supported by Asthma Care, the PCD Support Group and the CF Trust. I'll be there representing Asthma UK. Respiratory clinicians at the Royal Brompton will be there and representatives from the London Specialist Commissioning Group have been invited. The meeting will be chaired/ moderated by the Rt Hon Sir William Gare, a retired judge.

Please would anyone planning to go let the organisers know by emailing them at meeting@bromptonrespar.co.uk
