Use bedroom tax in the creation of 632 full time council workers positions reducing unemployment with money from the vulnerable a financial work of genius.

Although bedroom tax does not apply to me as I own my own home I totally disagree with it. I can't work out how it will work without major disruption to tenants and create lots of health problems eg.depression anxiety etc

does bedroom tax apply to the over 75's? I was given a 2 bed flat 19 years ago next door to my daughter, she is my carer, I am terrified they will move me away from her, I have no other helpers

The bedroom tax will have a major impact on the ecomony as well,,if people don,t have enough for food, will hit shops hard,,,and i hear they are setting up more food banks,,,i have been trying to downsize for 6 mnths, there are just no properties available,,,not sure how i will cope,,have to pay £66 a month towards tax and council tax,so that is 1 wks benefits gone,,electic and water take the 2nd wks,,so effectively i will have nothing to live on for 2 wks,,and there is the goverment telling us we need £70 a wk to live on,,,its all a big joke,,

People out there, listern the bedroom tax is a H/B cut,The Council tax is another form of this theft from our benefits. It has no effect on pensioners. You can however apply for the Housing Discreationary Award. Phone your local Council Office and ask for it. Being disabled my self and in a situation like Chrissie53 is driving me nuts. There is a clause on this form to say if awarded there is no guantee that you will get it long term. The other bit to this is quess what? YOU CAN NOT APPEAL IF TURNED DOWN? It is also only available on a short term basis.SOOOOOOOO it sure looks as it stands today some of us will have no choice but to down size.YOU ARE SKINNING US PRIMINISTER TOO MUCH TO SOON.

I too am disabled and in receipt of middle rate carers DLA. I rang my local council to ask what I could do about the BT and was put on hold for 34 minutes! When I eventually got through, I got he same response. I can apply for the discretionary award and if I am successful, this will last for 13 weeks. I do not know what the point of this is, or what good it will do. However after 13 weeks I can then re-apply. It seems a ridiculous thing to do and surely creates even more work for everyone. I was very concerned that I had not responded to the award notification letter in time, as it was dated February the 24 th, but I explained that I have been very ill of late with a chest infection and problems with my blood gas levels, and was not able to attend to it immediately. I was told that it was ok and that I can still lodge an appeal however. I do hope that this is the case, but thinking about it now, I realise that I did not take the council workers name and have no idea whether he wrote any notes on my file. This has happened before and I am normally more on the ball, but I think I went into some sort of trance waiting all that time!

Anyway, deadlines make me very nervous as I don't know what I will be able to achieve from one day to the next, I am also very unorganised and often lose important letters. In truth I am really confused and worried about all this. I need an extra bedroom for my daughter, who is my main carer and visits me regularly, but also attends university and lives 100miles away. Therefore she needs to stay with me because of the distance and moreover because I need her to, especially when I'm bad. The only other person living with me is my 13 year old son.My fear is that the council will now want her to pay rent here and council tax too. When she first left, the council said if she had left any of her belongings here or had any bank accounts registered here, she was eligible to pay council tax. I seem to be stuck between a rock and a hard place. Life is such a struggle anyway. Everything is so expensive and our government should be helping more people especially the vulnerable and not making life even more difficult. Sorry for the rant, but I am very concerned about the governments motives on this and how it will effect so many, who cannot afford it.

I am broadly in agreement with the changes to housing benefit, something needed to be done about the huge costs involved. Unfortunately - like many of the current government's plans - it wasn't thought through properly. There needs to be some discretion given to councils to allow for many of the things that you have complained about. However, we should also remember that our benefit is someone elses cost.

Don't forget "we're all in it together" when do the £millionaires get their ADDITIONAL £100,000 tax relief, is it next week?

It is exceedingly difficult to survive on basic benefits - JSA or ESA. "This is the minimum amount the law says you need to live on". However, it is absolutely impossible to survive on these benefits if there is additional money being taken out for bedroom tax or the new govement "sanctions" if you cannot comply with their unreasonable demands. I can only come to the conclusion that this government is deliberately trying to kill off part of the population which it regards as non productive. How can it be lawful to expect anyone to live on less than the law says is the minimum amount that a person can live on.?
