i get oral mouth thrush alot due to the use of inhalers. been to docs several times tried different things. has anyone got any tips?
Rinse your mouth each time you use an inhaler and my husband uses a mouth wash twice a day. It is so unpleasant when you get it. Hope you find an answer. Take care TAD xx

I always rinse and gargle then clean my teeth. I had oral thrush once and that was once to often, it's really horrible.
I have to use Corsodyl daily mouthwash.
I also use corsodyl mouthwash as my doctor said this was best for oral thrush; however i was advised not to use it straight after cleaning my teeth as it can damage them. I find it works really well
You could try going to the chemists they get to talk to a lot more
people with it than the doctor,
he/she might be able to tell you what is best for it .
I gargle and rinse my mouth out after using my inhalers, i did use mouth wash until I had a visit to my dentist, i asked her the best sort of mouthwash to use with my inhalers and her answer was "water" as I am just spitting money down the sink, and up to now have never had any problems with oral thrush,
Hi there, best thing I have found is Nystan Liquid come with its own droper generally. tastes pleasent enough better than the horrid thrush.

A thick white coating on the tongue, little ulcer like blisters (can be other things tho), can be red and sore, lumpy etc. Always need to get it diagnosed x

for me I find everything I eat tastes sour ie Milk tastes off and my tongue gets furd up white spots are thrush as well x

if you have oral thrush, your lips will start to feel chapped and wind burnt. you'll notice that your inside of your lips and mouth feel like moist peeling skin. you may even start biting at it and chewing it off. your lips will get white small patches of bumps all over them. or even a red ring on your lips. but mainly its burns and is irritating. the corners of your mouth may even get crusty and crack open. its a very unpleasant feeling. never itchy, just burning and cracking.
Hiya, there have been a few questions over the months about this so it may be worth you checking back. I work in a pharamacy and the general advice is to brush your teeth with toothpaste after using your inhalers. Using mouthwash is okay but never use the mouthwash after brushing your teeth, always before because you will be rinsing everything away otherwise.
Nystan or nystatin as dnnagels said is often given on prescription for oral thrush, commonly used for infants. Dad had an occassion with this and it was very effective.
Another tip is to find out if the inhalers you use, can be used with a spacer device, volumatic being a common one. This eliminates oral thrush massively as it can be washed.

I had thrush a couple of weeks ago. Doc gave me Nystan & it seems to have cleared but I also lost my voice about the same time & I was told it was due to the thrush. I have nearly finished the 2 bottles of Nystan but voice still the same. Have you ever heard of this & can you suggest anything?? It's driving me mad!! Thanks xx
hi I would get Nystan liqiud from your GP or chemist to clear it up ,and I have been told by my Comuity Matron and resp nurses to drink Pineapple jiuce after using inhalers hope it helps x
Rinse mouth every time you use any inhaler with fresh water is the best bet ,,,also natural yogurt is a good defence as it kills the yeast that causes thrush
When I had it they figured out it was from the steroid inhaler, so they tried me with a few different ones until they found one that didn't cause problems for me. I was also getting a sore throat, not good for someone talking on the radio almost every day.
I've been on the same one for about 8 years now - not a lot of GP's have even heard of it. Try mentioning Ciclesonide, I started on one 80mg puff a day to replace two to four of the previous ones. The consultant has upped it to two puffs a day now.

There is another mouthwash which you can purchase from the chemist (although it is not cheap) called Difflam, we use this when he has a flare up but on a daily basis we use either Corsodyl or Listerine. Hope you get better soon
Yes, I agree that you must rinse the mouthpiece of your inhalers after each use and avoid using anyone else's inhaler. Someone told me that a mild solution of vinegar water is a good oral antiseptic, but I prefer to use plain old salt water - just half a teaspoon in a glass of warm water makes a very good gargle and cleansing agent.
I don't waste my money on mouth washes because some of them actually stain my teeth. Also, I brush my tongue and insides of my cheeks at the same time as brushing my teeth and, to date, I haven't had an outbreak of thrush since I was a little rugrat..
But, as they say, what works for one person doesn't always hold true for another. I hope you can find a remedy that will help you.

I've been told this can happen to people taking inhaler's I was told to make sure my son who's age 4 & has asthma to make sure his teeth are brushed after taking the inhaler's so it must mean straight after I'm guessing, so far my son has been ok! I don't know if you have tried what I'm about to suggest but Live yogurt might help, but you might have to continue eating it for a few day's for any effect! if you have tried it then I'm not sure what else you could try other than those pro-biotic drinks you can get they might help as they destroy most bacteria in the gut! if you haven't tried then I think it's well worth trying,there's no promise it will work for you but there's no way of finding out without trying, I wish you the best & hope it works at clearing the thrush & hope you feel better soon!I hope this is of help Good luck!
Yes, try 'live' yoghurt and you can get probiotic capsules from health food store (much cheaper than those drinks) as well as washing your mouth and throat after using the inhalers - dont forget to spit, not swallow!
Also if you can avoid sugar this helps enormously because sugar feeds the candida. Regards, P
I used to get oral thrush when using my Seretide inhaler. I was advised to leave it in the bathroom so I could "rinse, gargle and spit" after using it - haven't had thrush since! (says she, touching wood, crossing fingers etc etc!!)

I came on to mention yoghurt, but see KAz has beaten me to it! Apart from that, think everything has been said. Bespote inhalers, the only time I get thrush is after antiobiortics. I just have a drink of water after using my inhalers.
I use Daktariin gel from the chemists and it usually clears it within a few hours. I put it on the tip of my tongue rather than my finger though and just lick it around the infected parts of my mouth.
I get oral thrush here and there, and nothing worked as oil pulling. It relives any pain you have in around 30 min, and quickly gets rid of the thrush within 3 days. But its a good technique which will keep the thrush under bay
What you do is get a spoon full of pure coconut oil in the morning and at night before you brush your teeth (perhaps on during the day depending on severity), and pull it through your teeth, and swish it around your mouth for 20/25 minutes, DO NOT SWALLOW it, once you're time is up just spit it out, and brush your teeth as usal. What this does is the oil traps all the toxins/ bacteria in your gums.
Coconut oil has many healing qualities to it, and its anti-fungal and only kills the good bacteria. It really works, perhaps try do a bit of research as I didn't really believe it until I tried it and I now swear by it. Give it ago!
