when I was first put on prednisolone in hospital the nurses did daily checks for diabetes. When I asked why they told me that steroids can make you temporarily diabetic but I was always ok. They stopped the checks after about a week and said if it was going to happen then it would have happened by now. High sugar levels do normally point to diabetes but there may be other reasons. Best ask the BLF nurses. Tony.

Thankyou for quick reply, its very reassuring that someones out there. i am thinking it probably is the prednisolone that has caused this, and i'm hoping it will right itself soon, i know it can take ages for the after effects to go.

Hi - my husband is type 2 diabetic, Prednisolone always sends his sugars higher than usual, so unless it is a really high reading it may be they just need to keep an eye, if you are having/just had a temporary course of steroids. I suspect in any case if you continue with high sugars the first line of attack is usually dietary advice. My husband is on medication (Metformin) which usually keeps him OK. Good luck at the Doctor's on thursday - let us know how it goes........

I never want to take them again. Hooe i dont have to, but when you have copd, i think its inevitable at times. we cant win!.
