COPD and black mould

Recently been diagnosed with copd and our flat has been full of black mould for years, would this exacerbate my symptoms?. Been trying to get the local council to do something about it, last time they fitted air vents.. but now we have mould around the air vents making things worse.

In Short Yes ... Black Mold Is Bad If You Have Lung Condition Your Hope Must Be Very Damp As Vents Did Not Work .... Need To Look For Source Of Damp

Hi Scars

Any area where mould appears is to be avoided as the mould spores are harmful, especially to someone suffering lung disease. Obviously the installation of vents has not been successful in treating the dampness so the landlord should be required to undertake further remedial action.

I went through hell not so long ago, repeated stays in hospital, but with very quick recovery times. Once I got home my breathing would deteriorate over a few days until I was back in hospital. The consultant said it’s something in your house that’s causing it, when we walked back through the door there was a musty smell, we tracked it to the kitchen, the pipes to the washing machine had been dripping and under the laminate floor was BLACK MOULD. My insurance company were very quick to realise the dangers and got someone in to strip and seal the floor. The improvement to health was amazing. My wife had been suffering with a cough for weeks, that disapeared almost overnight.

I did have one recurrence, I stayed in a hotel who kindly gave me a room with a wet room, at one a-clock in the morning I ended up in the ambulance on the way to hospital, the wet room had black mould, by the time we saw the doctor I was almost back to normal, it was put down as an allergic reaction to the mould.

The moral of the story, tell them it is not just annoying it is in fact life threatening

Council sent a damp expert who recommended £1000 of damp treatment.. but still nothing. At the moment we have to repaint every year using kitchen and bathroom paint in every room. No proper damp course, guttering sprays the walls with water every time it rains. I made them come out to fix it..but obviously they didn't do it right. Walls in the bedroom are now so damp the paint is starting to run.

If Council Don't Do Anything They Are Liable .... You Need To Tell Them You Need Rehousing On Health Ground .....
