Mowing my garden.
Some days I forget I have copd other days I struggle to breath when I walk but I can no longer maintain my front and back garden.my social landlord said they would only help with the garden if I got dla.but I do not get dla.
I'm only 50 so I do not think there is help out there for me plus my dla claim is being put to a appeal panel because I got turned down because I can walk unaided.
Phone 03000 030 555 BLF helpline for advice. They will call you back if you like.
Can the landlord put decking or gravel down then it wont need mowing. My back garden is gravel on top of plastic sheet stops any grass or getting it done for me with some tubs for flowers still looks tidy.
I am in social housing, in receipt of DLA and don't get help with anything like that, unless I am prepared to pay. Thankfully bins are sorted by local council have a request for assisted collection, though I had to fight for that. Luckily I have a husband who can help with gardening and of course does so, but out of our own pockets and great cost we have adapted our garden to cut down maintance to make it more manageable for me. Our social housing landlord won't do anything!
Sorry to hear of your dilemma, if you are disabled within the definition of the disability act then I believe your social landlord has a duty to make adjustments to help you. i.e arrange for the lawn to be mowed. Disablement includes long term chronic illness and is not defined by what financial benefits you receive, however many people use receipt of DLA as being a sign you are disabled, or the fact you use a wheelchair, or crutchs and the like. If I were you I would claim DLA,but also seek advice from anyone who knows about disability rights in your area. I wish you all the best in your plight
Hi Mumsy,
Have you tried your local village agent ? ( if you live in the country side ) or local volunteer forum? Or local Age UK? Surely someone would like to help you mow your lawn for free!
PollyP
Could reduce the stress if you ask your local councillor or MP for help in sorting this out.
Thats a good idea juliekkay, Oh mumsy hate to disillusion about local Age UK but like many places today they charge for those sort of jobs although they are one of the cheaper options, and very reliable. If you need regular garden services what about an advert in your local shop for someone, just a suggestion it pays to try all options. Once again good luck
