I feel for you. I do hope that your Doctor is doing a sputum test to ensure that the best anti biotic is given to you. I found that my Gp wasn't, but when I started my pulmonary rehab exercise class, the specialist physio sent off test to lab. Sometimes the test grew more than one bug, needed two different anti biotic one after the other. Take care

no tey just keep plying me with the same antibiotic
tey are testing me for bone density and steroid induced diabetes tho
We know exactly how you feel, for three months our GP was dishing out steroids and antibiotics like sweeties so my husband said, 'isn't it about time you did a sputum test', the GP said, that's a good idea.
The test came back with a totally different type of bacteria and the correct medication was given, but two weeks later it came back again, luckily we were due to see the specialist and he said that one weeks course of antibiotics is not enough, my husband should be taking two weeks at the least. Since taking the two weeks medication it is now three weeks since he had a chest infection.
We also found out that the GP should have been issuing bone protecting tablets, as steroids make your bones week, and he should have also been carrying around a blue card so if he was taken into hospital they would not stop the steroids immediately.
I've had a chest infection since before Christmas, I've had 2 weeks of Co-Amoxiclav and I'm now on my 3rd week of Doxycycline with another week after that. With all the aches and pains and both ears blocked I know how you feel. I'm at the end of my tether at the moment xx
hi I am in a similar situation but docter told me im in the hand of nurses and they should deal with it I have had a sputem test but no pills for bone density .
DOC GIVES 56 tabs hospital 225 makes you wonder dunit
The doctor I have now only ever gives me 5 days Co-Amoxiclav never been asked for a test, always have to ask for another 5 days, I'm sure GPs don't always understand COPD. I asked about a nebuliser he said no - last resort. Never asks me to go back to see how the abs are doing. Now my old doctor who retired recently always had me back after 5 days was a lot more sympathetic this one is but not as much, difference - old Doctor used to smoke, new one never has ??
My doctor give me more bromide nebulizer solution and not enough salbutamol one It comes to some when we the paitients now more than the doctor about the medication
TOUCH WOOD - quiet time of the year for regarding chest infections (I hop e) but never stop in the summer. Think it must be something to do with the pollen and me having asthma. happy with the nurse and the GP.
I think most sufferers of breathing/chest problems know more about their condition than the GP. You should have a longer dose of a different antibiotic I expect but a sputum test should determine that. The funny thing is that whenever Pete has done a sputum test nothing is ever discovered because of the antibiotics masking the bacteria so maybe he is just lucky to get the right antibiotic each time. He has had his fair share of different ones I must say. Good luck to you madmar and hope you get the right treatment for you. xxxx
Whenever I go over the first thing the Gp does is hand me a pot. So now I keep them in in case needed. I do hope he does this and then maybe you will get the right treatment and get better quicker xxxxx
My Mum is on the verge of taking a 2nd 'rescue pack' only finished the last one approx 10 days ago, been taking them practically back to back since last Oct and still not even sat in front of a specialist of any sort yet! So worrying, she had an initial appt with Physiotherapist within the Respiratory Unit at local hospital who said that Mum's previous scan had only shown 'very early signs of emphysema' and that all the infections and prolonged coughing could be caused by acid reflux from existing badly managed Hiatus Hernia. So meds changed for HH late Dec and referred for Barium meal, Mum temporarily picked up - then the cough etc came back. She had the Barium a couple of weeks ago, Dr verbally told her at the time that looking quickly it appears that the HH shouldn't be causing her these ongoing symptoms she is displaying, so back to square one again. The hospital are going to be doing their own breathing tests (so far all been done at Drs surgery) to look into COPD to confirm not an issue and Mum was originally going to actually see the Respiratory specialist in April - luckily this has now been brought forward to Feb 8th. Doing my head in and of course my Mum's! We are all scared as we still don't know what is actually wrong, all been going on for too long - prolonged hard core cough for well over a year/cracked ribs from coughing so hard/pleurisy/back to back infections being treated with steroids and anti biotics - subsides for a bit, then comes right back again. She is only 65 and seems to be ageing before my very eyes. Very sad to watch.
My mum had this and I had to watch her go down until sadly a chest infection took her life she was 52 I am so scared cos I'm 38 and have exactly the same I now what's coming
