Advice anyone please, can someone tell me which vitamins should I take to stop me feeling so very tired all the time
I think if we had the answer to that one Meike we would all be happy chappies. I take vitamin D and also fish oil but I am always tired. I believe it's to do with having laboured breathing that is the cause of it.
I have found that since cracking my ribs my breathing hasn't been so good, and it's since then I've been tired and just drained all the time, so like gilly says maybe it is the laboured breathing.

Hi - I get very tired for no apparent reason too and from what I've read or been told, this seems to be a major factor for some of us with a lung condition. I sleep or just rest a lot I take Vitamin D, which is in short supply over the winter months and I also take Immiflex (a very good all-round multi vitamin). I'm also having some blood tests done too. If I think of anything else, I'll post it on to you. Happy New Year
Thanks for information Everyone, happy new year to all of you x

Just an after thought, have you had any blood tests done lately? Could you be anaemic or have low thyroxine levels? might be worth checking it out. Let us know how you get on.
Best thing to do is consult your GP.
I have laboured breathing too, but I make sure I get plenty of exercise and fresh air, watch my weight, and eat a healthy diet.
Like all of us, I take vitamin supplements too. But there is no magic pill.
As a medical professional I can honestly say if you find a GP who recommends vitamins you'll be lucky! The body can't process the amount of vitamins in a tablet and they just pass straight through you. This is a subject often addressed by Dr Christian on Channel 4, he's always saying not to waste money on vitamins! Of course each to their own though.
Happy and healthy new year to everyone, lets hope it's a good one!

Hi, this is just my opinion (!) - I don't believe that taking extra vitamins does anything for you unless you have been tested for deficiencies and prescribed them (I take massive dose of Vit D as I have osterporosis). Your diet has to be extremely poor to result in lack of vitamins as you need most of them in such small amounts. Vitamin supplements is a huge business and people are being conned into thinking they need them. Like others have said, when you have copd, depending on its severity, just walking from one room to another takes up so much energy that it's not surprising we get tired easily. I don't know what the answer is, I sometime have a couple of naps in the day, being unable to keep my eyes open any longer, but then suffer at night, sometimes being awake the whole night! Libby x
Hey Meike,
There is plenty of evidence to show that folk with respiratory diseases experienced more tiredness than others of the same age with out respiratory disorders.
Do you exercise at all? The right type of exercise can help our muscles to use oxygen ore efficiently, and of course if you can get lots of fresh air too-that will help,
Checking that you are not anaemic is a good idea as well, as is eating healthily, lots of fresh fruit, veg and protein, rather than too much carbohydrate, which uses a deal a of energy to digest.
Hoping you feel less tired soon.
As Mike says when I told my GP I was Taking Vit D3, he said I was wasting my money, they just pass straight through me, but I still take them !

Libby think your right, just walking up stairs drains me out, then Im puffing till I get back to myself, but its bound make us tired as we do suffer with COPD,so like Libby I nod off most afternoons, but Im hoping when spring arrives Im out walking for clean fresh air, wishing you all great health happiness for 2013 xxx
Meike,
I do think that we need supplements of vitamins and minerals. As we get older and especially if we have a chronic condition is is not enough to get the goodness from food alone.
I am going to post a question about which supplements are specific to COPD sufferers but in the meantime I would say that you should get your Vit D levels checked, they are probably low as most people have too low levels.
This is the most important step to take, then you need to take omega 3 and antioxidants and maybe Vit B's to improve the inflammation in your body. There are so many choices and you need the right balance so best to speak to your doctor about it when you get your Vit D level checked.
Lets hope we find out more from my new post.
