Our little dog.

On Sunday our little dog Tosh seemed to be in pain and would not let us pick him up, he even bit my hubby (thankfully he has no teeth) (dog not hubby :-) ) he has never ever done anything like that before.

Monday morning I took him to the vet and after examination they decided he may be constipated so they gave him a pain killing injection and hoped that nature would take its course. The effects of the painkiller were not good he could not keep still he walked round and round the house falling over then getting up and walking more, this went on for over 6 hours then he got in his bed and slept. He did not eat or drink anything.

Tuesday I phoned the vets and they said "come and get some lactalose" I did and an hour later he was very sick, phoned the vets they said "bring him in" they gave him an enema which worked but immediately he started being sick and after 5 times I phoned the vets they said "bring him in" they gave him an anti nausea injection and some zantacand said if he was no better tomorrow bring him in early, he slept all evening. He did drink some water but still no food. This morning we were up at 7, the kitchen was a mess the enema must have been still working and the poor thing looked awful, so ------

Wednesday back to the vets at 8am they are keeping him all day and doing bloods and possible xray or ultra scan, just waiting for them to phone to tell me which one.

He is nearly 14 so very worried.

Hope your dog gets better, <3 can't understand your vets thinking using zantac as a side effect is constipation strange thinking

The Zantac is to settle his tummy regarding the sickness, that was given after the enema had worked.

I did not mean the blog as a criticism of the vets, I have complete confidence in them they have treated him before, they are so kind and look after him well.

Looking forward to having him back but not to the bill, thank goodness we have him insured.

hi polly,

no wonder tosh gave your hubby a nasty suck, he was probably trying to tell him something.

It might help if tosh got these for Christmas treat instead of enemas

doggiedentures.co.uk/dentas...

I am sure I'd be pretty miserable only sucking a juicy bone, my two dogs would be lost without their gnashers for sure.

best wishes for you and tosh, your husband may have to use a muzzle though :D LOL

Thanks for that I have not seen it before, think I will put a picture of him on there when he gets back.

He might not have any teeth but he eats well I make giant cottage pies, cut it into portions and freeze so he has meat an veg every day.

He loves corned beef cut up into teeny pieces and likes a little banana.

Do hope your little chap is well again soon,it is so upsetting seeing them unwell,

Just spoke to vets they have just had blood results back a couple are a bit high but not too bad. They are going to let me know if they are doing an xray of his Gastro Intestinal tract, if they do it tonight he will have to stay in as he has to be monitored for a long time and stay on a drip as he has a heart murmur, so still in limbo.

Thank you everyone, We got him home last night but he had to go back this morning to finish his drip they did not want to keep him overnight because of stressing him out.

They still do not know what is causing his pain, it could be muscular so they are going to try him on tramadol today to see how he tolerates it, trouble is he is so tiny only 2.5 kilos.

Getting him back at 4pm.

Hi pollyyjj

What a coincidence my dog was ill on Sunday, and I took her to emergency vets after a year which involved pancreatitis and bloat I was not prepared to dither. Even though she had a pain killing injection she had an uncomfortable night, with her tummy. Next day she had blood tests which seem inconclusive apart from higher than usual lipase and tryglycerides. Back to vets tomorrow for more blood tests. I hope your doggy improves, like you I am glad she is insured. Let me know your diagnosis.
