I HAD TWO ONE WAY VALVES INSERTED INTO MY LEFT LUNG,ON THE 28 OF NOVEMBER 2012 MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT FOR ONE WEEK LOL. THE LAST 6 DAYS HAVE BEEN A BIT HARD BREATHING LABORED, TO BE EXPECTED I FEEL AS IT WAS AN INTRUSION THAT MY BODY HAD TO COME TO TERMS WITH, THEY TOOK ME OFF THE PREDNIZONE OF WHICH I HAD BEEN ON 25MLS PER DAY FOR THREE MONTHS COMING DOWN FROM 50MLS, MY ASABATIONS WERE MANY TIMES DAILY AND VERY THREATENING I LEARN HOW TO LEVEL MY BREATHING WITH CALM AND A LOT OF INNER STRENGTH,6 MONTHS AGO I HAD 24% OF MY LUNGS WORKING IN THE LAST SIX I HAD LOST 475 OF THAT AS MY SPECIALIST SAID, ::ROBIN 12 WEEKS OF LIFE WOULD BE AN OVER STATEMENT, SO I HAD THE VALVES DONE, DUE TO THE FACT THAT ANOTHER SPECIALIST A YEAR AGO HAD SAID I WOULD DIE I HAD STOPPED MY HEALTH FUND,LOL,WRONG!!!!!!, CONSEQUENTLY I HAVE SELF FUNDED, THE VALVES AND THE STAY IN HOSPITAL WERE RATHER EXPENSIVE YET I FEEL THAT IT WAS AND WILL BE WORTH EVERY PENNY, ACTUALLY I AM ONLY THE 3RD PERSON IN QUEENSLAND OUT OF 98 OPPS TO SELF FUND AND I THINK THAT I WILL GET AT LEAST ANOTHER 15 TO 20 YEARS OF GOOD AND FRUITFUL LIFE, I AM HAVING THREE MORE PUT INTO MY RIGHT LUNG IN MAY. SO AND ADVICE WOULD BE GRATEFULLY RECEIVED AND TO ALL WHO ARE FEELING A BIT DOWN ,TAKE HEART AND HAVE HOPE AND FAITH IN YOUR OWN STRENGTH EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE. MUCH LOVE AND CARE TO ALL BLESSED BE, REGARDS ROBIN, PS I AM NOT SHOUTING I ALWAYS WRITE IN CAPITALS.LMAO,

I am Robins wife and I just have to say how inspirational he is. He never complains and is

always cheerful. He is so brave and I have to tell you how hard it is for me to stay calm when he is struggling to breathe but stay calm I must whilst he manages to get a grip on his breathing. I am humbled each time it happens. He so deserves the best possible outcome from his surgery. Onward and upward and looking forward to May when he has valves put into his right lung. Please send out positive thoughts for him and his continuing improvement. His biggest fan,

B x

My husband suffers with COPD and it is a nightmare watching him struggle. He is not yet as severe as your husband seems to have been - my heart goes out to you. I too am extremely proud of my husband too and how he deals with this dreadful illness. Good luck to you and Robin. My thoughts are with you both - may the gods look after you both and he has a speedy recovery. Take good care of each other TAD xx

It is great news you have had this done. Although I am a bit concerned there are many that would not be able to self fund and so would die as a result. I am intrigued by being told you have only weeks to live with a lung function of 24%. My lung function has been around 25% for many months, and certainly I expect to live quite a few years yet. I also know of several people through my support page that have a lung function of less than 20%, one having lived with 16% and still keeping active, ok not easily, for over a year..Your FEV1 should have risen now so maybe you can let us know how your procedure has helped that. A friend of mine here in the UK had the same procedure some months ago and it certainly has helped. It takes a time to improve although with time I am sure you will get there.

I LOST 47% OF THAT 24%IN SIX MONTHS AND EVERY TIME I WENT TO SLEEP I WAS GOING BELOW THE LINE OF SAFETY SO BASICALLY IT WAS CONSIDERED THAT SOON I WOULD NOT AWAKE. THEY ONLY TOLD ME THIS AFTER MY PROCEDURE,AS THEY SAID IT WAS MY DECISION AND SHOULD NOT BE SWAYED, IF I FELT THAT I COULD GO THEN THAT HAD TO BE MY CHOICE AND MY END IF THAT WAS THE CASE. MY ASABATIONS WERE REALLY QUITE RADICAL, HERE IN AUS, NSW, YOU HAVE TO BE DED TO GET OXYGEN WITH ANY GOV HELP I PAID FOR A MACHINE FOR A YEAR AND THEN THOUGHT I REFUSE TO BE DEPENDENT I MUST DO THIS HELL OR HIGH WATER ON MY OWN STRENGTH, DUMB I KNOW, LMAO, THATS JUST ME PRETTY BLOODY OBSTINATE SOMETIMES..I CRASHED THE LAST FOUR DAYS BADLY, THOUGH I DIDNT HAVE ANY ASABATIONS JUST UNBELIEVABLY LABORED BREATHING MY MD SAID THAT I HAD COME OF THE PREDNIZONE TO QUICKLY AND I RAMMED 50MG EACH DAY INTO MY SYSTEM PLUS RULIDE 300MG ONCE A DAY AND AUGMENTIN DUO TWICE A DAY THIS EQUALS ON ITS OWN THE EQUIVALENT OF 875MG AMOXCILLIN AND POTASSIUM CLAVULANATE ACID 125MG SO BY TAKING THE TWO ANTIBIOTICS TOGETHER I WOULD ELIMINATE THE CHANCE OF INFECTION, NOW ALL OF THIS IS PRESCIBED BY MY DR WHO HAS KNOWN ME FOR OVER TWENTY YEARS AND HAS KEPT ME ALIVE AND KICKING FOR THE LAST TEN, SO I AM NOT SAYING THAT IT WILL WORK FOR OTHERS JUST LETTING YOU KNOW WHAT I AM DOING AND ALLOW ME TO SAY I AM DOING JUST FINE ,LMAO AS ALWAYS,REGARDS ROBIN, OH AND YES IT WILL TAKE TIME YET I INTEND TO BE BACK RIDING AND COMPETING AGAIN IN MY 67TH YEAR HEHEHEHE, MUCH TO MY WIFES CONCERN THEN AGAIN SHE SKIS AND I CANT TAKE THE WIND RUSH CANT PUSH AGAINST IT SI I HAVE TO DO SOMETHING JUST TO BE A NUISANCE,LOL.
