Obstructive Sleep Apnoea

A while ago, I emailed my local MP about OSA, as we were encouraged to do. I have now received a copy of the reply he had from Anna Soubry at the DH and thought some of you may be interested in it. The main body of the reply is:

"The National Clinical Directors for Respiratory Disease at the Department of Health, Professor Sue Hill and Dr Robert Winter, have identified OSA as one of the priority areas for the respiratory programme for the coming year.

A clinical lead and a project manager have been appointed to establish a working group involving a range of experts and stakeholders, including representatives from the British Lung Foundation, the British Thoracic Society, the British Sleep Society, the Association of Respiratory Technology and Physiology, the Association of Respiratory Nurse Specialists, the Primary Care Respiratory Society and the Sleep Apnoea Trust association.

The working group has helped to set out the current situation and identified ways to make improvements to service provision across England. These were presented to the Department's Respiratory Programme Board at the end of September. We anticipate further work will develop a model care pathway and service specification to reduce variation in diagnosis and treatment, and to help improve the quality of care for people with this condition.

I hope this reply is helpful."

So, there you have it- make of it what you will!

Hi everybody, at the end of the day Obstructive Sleep Apnoea is a condition is just regarded as something of sufferers and their partners just live with and take for granted as not worth taking the trouble to pursue any treatment etc.

Indeed our own CEO the doctor Penny Woods apparently has a family member with the condition, it would be interesting for some information as to whether or not she has pursued any course of action in relation to this condition or not as the case may be

best wishes

I had a quick squizz in the Radio Times, Lynne but couldn't see anything. Will have a more thorough look to see if it's on later in the week. Thanks.

Hi Lynne,

'Goodnight Britain' is a two-parter starting Wed 28th Nov at 9am, Beeb 1! Might be interesting to watch - can't remember the last time I slept for a whole night and woke refreshed, lol!
